What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base model, and it can feel a bit light on equipment compared with the higher trims. The EX, EX-L, and Touring add bigger 18-inch wheels, and the Touring brings the most upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian trim uses the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and you can choose FWD or AWD depending on trim. The engine is described as responsive and efficient, but cold-weather and short-trip use deserve attention.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are separate, and Touring adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, a rearview camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging capability, and HondaLink connected services. SiriusXM is available on EX-L, while navigation and a premium audio system are standard on Touring.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive recorded 10.2 L/100 km, while Natural Resources Canada’s combined expectation is 8.0 L/100 km.

Which 2019 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CR-V experience with standard 17-inch wheels, body-colour trim, and rear privacy glass. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the more desirable equipment balance without jumping all the way to the top trim. It also benefits from the broader standard safety and convenience content that makes the CR-V easier to live with day to day.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more premium-feeling CR-V and value the added convenience and comfort features. It’s the trim to consider if you want more luxury without going all the way to Touring.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, a premium audio system, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Honda Sensing is standard on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should have some negotiating room if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 745 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,260 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $22,616 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,839 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The CR-V’s strong reputation, broad appeal, and owner satisfaction should help support demand, but condition, trim, and equipment will matter more when it’s time to resell. Well-equipped examples are likely to hold their appeal better than stripped-down ones.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is a Top Safety Pick according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns a five-star safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are not part of the suite, but they are equipped separately. Touring also adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is the IIHS headlight result: an Acceptable rating keeps it from reaching Top Safety Pick Plus.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety, roomy practicality, and a refined driving feel.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,215 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,616 CAD average.
• It adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: The 2019 is the better value if you want a well-rounded CR-V at a softer price, especially if you can find a clean, well-equipped example. If you’re willing to spend more for newer updates, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
