CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Chevrolet Malibu
Summary
With 88 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,441 CAD, 30.7% of 2019 Chevrolet Malibu listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu stands out as a roomy midsize sedan that blends good value with a more polished look than earlier versions. By this point in the Malibu’s life cycle, Chevrolet had already given it a sleeker shape and a larger, more open-feeling back seat, while the cabin was also known for easy-to-use features. It was not as refined as rivals such as the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, but it remained a practical choice for buyers who wanted space and a lower used price.
For 2019, Chevrolet revised the front and rear fascias and introduced the sporty Malibu RS trim. That same model year also brought the Infotainment 3 system on a standard eight-inch touchscreen, while the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine gained a continuously variable transmission. The Malibu already offered a seven-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and upper trims could get an eight-inch screen, so the 2019 updates helped make the car feel more modern and better equipped.
There are still trade-offs. The standard 1.5-litre turbocharged engine was described as producing lacklustre acceleration, and the Malibu’s overall reliability record is mixed compared with the strongest rivals. Even so, the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu appeals as a comfortable, spacious sedan with useful technology and a strong value proposition for shoppers who can live with its less engaging driving character.

How much does the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,414 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,136 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,029 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,737 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.90% |
Prices have softened 7.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 90 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?
Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, and it fits a roomy midsize sedan that offers good value, a more polished look than earlier versions, and a larger, more open-feeling back seat. It also has easy-to-use features and useful technology, which makes it a practical choice if you want space and a lower used price rather than the most refined driving experience. The market shows 30.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2019 Chevrolet Malibu’s reliability record is described as mixed compared with the strongest rivals, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about careful shopping and inspection than assuming every example will age the same way.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Chevrolet Malibu?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 90 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.90% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,136 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?
The current average of $15,414 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,737 CAD.
That price trend suggests the Malibu has softened enough to give you a better entry point today, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about pricing if the market stays soft. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the upper end of the range. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.90% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2019 Malibu is the better pick if you want a roomy, value-oriented midsize sedan with updated styling and useful tech, especially if you can find one priced near the lower end of the range. If you are more price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully and compare condition, because the softer market can reward patience and help you land a stronger deal.
