Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Malibu stands out as a roomy, good-value midsize sedan with a more sophisticated feel than earlier Malibus. It benefits from the 2016 redesign’s sleeker styling and longer wheelbase, which gave it a larger, more open-feeling back seat, even though trunk space slightly shrank. For this model year, Chevrolet offered the Malibu with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, plus a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque on upper trims. The Malibu Hybrid was also part of the lineup, pairing a 1.8-litre four-cylinder with a 76-kW electric motor for a total output of 182 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, along with a combined fuel economy rating of 5.1 litres per 100 kilometres.
Inside, the 2018 Malibu’s appeal comes from its easy-to-use technology and broad safety equipment list. The Chevy MyLink system ran on a seven-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while an eight-inch screen was optional on upper trims and standard on Premier. Depending on trim, buyers could also get lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and front and rear park assist. Its main drawbacks are that the standard 1.5-litre engine was described as lacklustre in acceleration, and the car was not quite as refined as rivals such as the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. Still, for shoppers who want a comfortable, efficient family sedan with plenty of features, the 2018 Malibu makes a strong case.

The premier One of the NICEST vehicles I’ve ever driven. Coming from someone who’s previously owned a Mercedes S600. The quality for the price point is insane on the Malibu premier. It floats like a cloud at highway speeds, has extremely comfortable heated and cooled leather seats, and the air system is top notch. To top everything off, the Malibu Premier is one of the absolute quickest sedans under 40k if not the quickest. 0-100 yesterday. Need to pass someone on the highway? Done in a split second and you didn’t even spill a drop of your open coffee in the cup holder. After driving one, I CANNOT see how people settle for base models, or even worse, something as junk as a Kia or Hyundai instead of opting for a nice quality sedan. Spend your money wisely and get a Malibu premier.

| Year-Round High | $14,862 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,854 CAD |

Prices have softened 14.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 85 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice if you're comparing trims and equipment levels.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Reviewers consistently highlight its comfort, efficiency, and easy-to-use technology, and many also praise the ride quality and the upscale feel of the Premier trim. For you, that makes it a sensible pick if you want a roomy midsize sedan with a practical, family-friendly layout and a good-value proposition. With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with no specific dislikes mentioned in the summary. That kind of response suggests the Malibu can be a reassuring choice if you want a used sedan you can count on for everyday driving. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about owner sentiment and more about making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Malibu?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can afford to be patient and compare listings before committing.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 85 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.71% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $12,670 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?
The current average of $12,670 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,854 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Malibu has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year's level. Strong demand for well-reviewed, comfortable family sedans can help support resale, especially when the car has a good reputation with owners.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.71% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Malibu is the better path if you want a comfortable, well-liked midsize sedan with a softer used-market price and enough inventory to shop selectively. If you're especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2018 stands out as a strong balance of value, owner satisfaction, and current market opportunity.
