Is the 2018 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Subaru Forester earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its spacious interior, safety features, and smooth driving experience, and many also like the comfortable seating and user-friendly technology. That lines up well with its practical compact-SUV mission: you get a roomy cabin, a large cargo area, and standard all-wheel drive, making it a sensible fit if you want everyday usefulness and all-weather confidence. With 29.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a healthy share of attractive options in the market.

Is the 2018 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable and trouble-free in day-to-day use, with praise centred on comfort, safety, and smooth operation. That said, some drivers mention sluggish power and a few minor issues, so a careful inspection still matters. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the overall reputation and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained properly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 257 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.64% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,599 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $16,599 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,445 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer resale environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy at today’s average, you may have less immediate upside than in a rising market, so condition and maintenance history matter even more. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2018 Forester is a strong pick if you want a practical, confidence-inspiring compact SUV with a roomy cabin, standard all-wheel drive, and solid owner approval. If your priority is stretching your budget, the softer pricing makes this year especially worth considering; if you want to compare alternatives, a nearby model year may make sense if you find a better-equipped or better-priced example.
