CarGurus Analysis: 2018 MINI Cooper

Summary
With 124 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,768 CAD, 37.1% of 2018 MINI Cooper listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 MINI Cooper 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 MINI Cooper stands out for blending retro style with a genuinely playful driving character. It is a small premium-feeling car with go-kart-like handling, and the brand’s trademark British style gives it a personality that is hard to mistake for anything else. For buyers who want something fun rather than merely practical, that character is a major part of the appeal.
For this model year, the standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder that makes 134 horsepower. The 8-inch infotainment touchscreen adds a distinctive cabin touch with its light ring that changes colours with drive modes, and it includes Apple CarPlay and navigation. The car is also available as a four-door variant, which broadens its usefulness a bit, but the MINI remains a small vehicle at heart, so rear-seat space and cargo room are still limited. Android Auto is not available at all, and the ride can be harsh at times, but the 2018 MINI Cooper’s mix of style, features, and driving enjoyment is what makes it memorable.

It's a great little car. Reminds me of all the little old vws I drove when I was a kid. It's nice and zippy. Really fun to drive on the back roads.

Beautiful clean car deluxe package. This car would be great for a couple. Not great if a tall person is driving and you need leg room in the rear seat behind the driver. Would be a tight ride for four adults or a family with older kids. Small trunk area. I think it is a fair value.

The Mini S Cooper Clubman is a very practical & fun to drive car. For my next car, however, I may consider the MINI S 4 door hardtop, as the back hatch on the 4 door hardtop seems that it might be easier to live with than the barn doors of the Clubman.

How much does the 2018 MINI Cooper cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,793 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $15,008 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,970 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,988 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.20% |
Prices have softened 12.20% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 125 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 MINI Cooper a good car?
Yes — the 2018 MINI Cooper earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its zippy performance, fun driving experience, and good features, while the distinctive style adds to its appeal. It also fits well if you want a small premium-feeling car that is more about personality and driving enjoyment than maximum practicality. With 36.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2018 MINI Cooper reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car that owners find dependable in day-to-day use, with a reputation for being enjoyable and trouble-free enough to recommend. The comments also suggest it is the kind of vehicle people feel good about keeping for the long term, especially if they value character as much as convenience. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about satisfaction and more about making sure the specific car has been cared for properly over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 MINI Cooper?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 125 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.20% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,008 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 MINI Cooper's resale value?
The current average of $15,793 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,988 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become a bit softer, which can matter if you plan to sell later. A lower current average can make the car easier to buy now, but it may also mean resale gains are more limited if the trend continues. On the other hand, a model with strong owner satisfaction can still hold buyer interest better than a less distinctive alternative. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.20% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, owner satisfaction, and current market softness, the 2018 is the one to focus on first. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2018’s stronger market position.
