CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Chevrolet Colorado

Summary
With 112 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,258 CAD, 30.4% of 2018 Chevrolet Colorado listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado 4.54 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado stands out as a midsize pickup that balances everyday usability with real truck capability. It is part of the second generation, which brought a larger, more refined package than the original Colorado, and by 2018 it offered a strong mix of powertrain choices and body styles. Buyers could choose from an extended cab or crew cab, with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and the truck’s utility was backed by useful cargo-bed options and a reputation for being more spacious than many rivals.
What makes the 2018 model especially appealing is the breadth of its available equipment. The lineup included a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, a 3.6-litre V6, and, on higher trims, a 2.8-litre Duramax diesel with 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. That diesel also delivered up to 3,500 kilograms of towing capacity and as little as 9.4 L/100 km on the highway, which gave the Colorado a rare combination of strength and efficiency. Higher trims added off-road hardware such as an off-road suspension package, skid plates, and locking rear differential, while the ZR2 brought even more serious trail-focused equipment.
The 2018 Colorado was not perfect, though. Its early second-generation trucks were known for transmission troubles, and the model’s active safety technology was not as comprehensive as what some rivals offered. Even so, it remained a solid choice for buyers who wanted a capable, manageable truck with good value, especially in the mid-range and higher trims where the Colorado’s blend of performance, towing ability, and versatility came through most clearly.

2018 Z71, Crew Cab, Very nice truck overall. The V6 has plenty of power. Also, it has plenty of towing capacity. The fit and finish are quite nice, for the price. Apple Car Play is amazing. I was surprised that it didnt have push-button start. It is much more nimble and easy to park than my full size pickup it replaced. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants the utility of a truck, but doesnt need or have room for a full size model.

Research shows the 2015-2018 Chevrolet Colorado has potential transmission issues which concerns me. I still love the truck and it’s stance.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $24,235 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $23,048 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $28,610 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,590 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −15.23% |
Prices have softened 15.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 112 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado earns a 4.54/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its smooth ride, decent fuel economy, good power and towing capacity, and the way its compact size makes it easier to drive than a full-size truck. It also fits well if you want a midsize pickup with everyday usability, real truck capability, and a cabin that feels more spacious than many rivals. With 29.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado reliable?
Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that many people find dependable in day-to-day use, with a reputation for being trouble-free enough to recommend for its utility and nimbleness. At the same time, some drivers mention mechanical issues, so you should pay close attention to service records and how the truck has been maintained.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-used example may carry the same mechanical concerns that some owners have reported, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Colorado?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right truck.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 112 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.23% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,048 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?
The current average of $24,235 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,590 CAD.
That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The Colorado’s broad appeal as a practical midsize truck should help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a midsize pickup with strong everyday usability, good towing ability, and a market that has become more favourable, the 2018 is a sensible target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2018 stands out as a balanced choice when you find a clean example at the right price.
