CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Summary
With 84 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,672 CAD, 33.3% of 2017 Honda Ridgeline listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Ridgeline 4.88 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline stands out because it takes a different approach to pickup-truck design. It uses a unibody structure, shares a mechanical platform with the Honda Pilot and the Honda Passport, and blends utility with comfort rather than chasing a traditional rough-and-ready feel. Honda also carried over the Ridgeline’s signature dual-action tailgate and in-bed trunk, while adding new safety technologies and a more fuel-efficient powertrain to broaden its appeal. For buyers who want truck usefulness without the usual compromises, that combination is the Ridgeline’s main draw.
It is also well equipped and easy to live with. All models use a 3.5-litre V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, and in Canada all-wheel drive has been standard throughout this generation. The cabin is spacious, and most trims include tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel, while higher trims add leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and a much-improved infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Honda Sensing is standard as well, along with a multi-angle rear-view camera.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The Ridgeline’s limited off-road capability and lower towing capacity than rivals may matter to some shoppers, and its unibody construction will not appeal to traditionalists. Early models also lacked physical volume knobs, which some owners found annoying to use. Even so, the 2017 Ridgeline’s mix of comfort, clever storage, and everyday practicality makes it a distinctive choice in the used truck market.

We were looking for a truck for light hauling. Not for off-road. And I didn’t want to truck that looked all tricked out and masculine. I wanted a smooth ride, and a functional truck. We ruled out other midsize trucks because they rode like a truck. And as a passenger, the ride was unsettling. I prefer a ride like butter. Then we found the Honda Ridgeline. Because it is built different than the other midsize trucks, basically a truck body or an SUV base, it rides as smooth as silk. It doesn’t look like I’m trying to be young, or masculine or tough. It’s a classy looking little truck. The electronics inside blow me away. All of the safety features, and the space inside the backseat. It was exactly what we were looking for. I just didn’t know it existed until I found the Ridgeline.

How much does the 2017 Honda Ridgeline cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,647 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $22,945 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $28,201 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,201 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −16.15% |
Prices have softened 16.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 80 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns a 4.88/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, comfort, and practical features, and many also like the spacious interior and innovative cargo solutions such as the under-bed trunk. That makes it a strong fit if you want truck usefulness with a more comfortable, easy-to-live-with feel. With 32.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with buyers highlighting comfort and practical everyday use over the long term. For used shoppers, that kind of satisfaction can reduce the risk of unpleasant surprises if the truck has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 80 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.15% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,945 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $23,647 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,201 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be helpful if you're buying now but less favourable if you're planning to sell soon. If you own one for a few years, the current softness may limit short-term upside, especially if the truck is priced above the market average. On the other hand, a well-kept example can still hold appeal because shoppers value the Ridgeline’s comfort and practicality.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.15% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s comfort-first approach, clever storage, and strong owner approval, the 2017 is a sensible place to focus your search. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years and prioritise whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, mileage, and asking price.
