Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty stands out as a heavy-duty truck that combines serious capability with a more modern, refined feel than earlier versions. For this model year, Ford’s move to extensive aluminium alloy use in the body made the truck more than 300 kilograms lighter on average, and the result was improved fuel efficiency without giving up towing capacity. It also brought a broad spread of modern driver-assistance and safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, forward collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warnings, and a surround-view camera system with seven cameras. For buyers who want a truck that can work hard but still feel up to date, that mix is a major part of its appeal.
Powertrain choice is another strength. The standard 6.2-litre “Boss” V8 made 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while the available 6.7-litre Power Stroke diesel made 440 horsepower and 925 pound-feet of torque in this model year. The 2017 F-350 Super Duty could tow up to 9,525 kilograms with a conventional hitch or 14,375 kilograms with a gooseneck, and rear-drive regular cabs could haul as much as 3,460 kilograms of payload. It also offered a wide range of cab and bed combinations, plus a 4.2-inch screen on XL models and 8.0-inch or 12.0-inch displays on higher trims, which helped make it more versatile and better equipped than a bare-bones work truck.
There are still trade-offs. The truck’s load-focused design means it does not ride or handle as well as some alternatives from GM or Ram, and the buying guide notes that reliability can be spotty on older models in the Super Duty line. Even so, the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty is appealing because it pairs immense towing and payload ability with a much richer feature set than many buyers expect from a truck of this size.

This truck is amazing!! Very satisfied with its Platinum features. It was a great investment and upgrade to my 23 year old truck. New car prices are ridiculous. I don’t agree with new car prices, but I do think a fully loaded used vehicle that is well taken care of is more in my price range. I believe if you’re going to buy something with a high, new car price, why not get an older model with similar features for half the price.

There are 65 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.5/5, which is a strong sign that it delivers on what heavy-duty truck shoppers want. Owners consistently praise its power, comfort, and towing capability, and they also like its rugged workhorse character and stylish features. For you, that means it fits best if you want a truck that can handle demanding jobs while still feeling more modern and refined than a bare-bones work truck. With 18.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some market flexibility if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in the ways that matter most for heavy-duty use: power delivery, towing confidence, and day-to-day durability. That said, the broader Super Duty line has a reputation for spotty reliability in older models, so you should still pay close attention to service records and overall condition. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is buying a hard-worked example that has not been maintained as carefully as it should have been.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and focused.
- Deal availability: 18.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 65 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.77% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $39,282 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty's resale value?
The current average of $43,997 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,201 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Heavy-duty trucks with broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can still attract steady demand, especially when they are well maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 18.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want a heavy-duty truck with strong owner approval, a softer price trend, and enough inventory to compare examples carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still be worth considering, but the 2017 is the better fit when you want a balance of capability, satisfaction, and current market value.
