CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Chevrolet Trax
Summary
With 106 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,953 CAD, 20.8% of 2017 Chevrolet Trax listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Chevrolet Trax 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Chevrolet Trax stands out as a small SUV that tries to balance city-friendly size with everyday usefulness. Chevrolet’s first subcompact crossover was designed to blur the line between a compact car and a small SUV, giving owners a higher driving position and more space while keeping the manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency of a sedan. For 2017, it also received a slight makeover inside and out with edgier styling, and it added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. The LTZ trim was renamed Premier that year, and blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert were available along with lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
It is also distinctive for the amount of equipment Chevrolet managed to pack into a budget-minded package. The 2017 Trax could be had with features such as a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen, OnStar, Bluetooth, and, depending on trim, a backup camera, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, and a seven-speaker Bose audio system. Owners also tend to value its compact footprint and good fuel economy, which suit it well for daily driving. On the downside, the Trax’s performance was only adequate in its early years, and some shoppers may still find its comfort and feature content less generous than they would like.

I really do love my Chevy Trax, the only thing I would like to see improved is for the passenger seat to have an arm rest.

I loved it , cost is in range of buying. Didn’t get to see how it handles with steep hills, so talking about engine performance I cannot say.

How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Trax cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,941 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $10,891 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $13,603 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,375 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −18.19% |
Prices have softened 18.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 103 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Trax a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Chevrolet Trax earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its great gas mileage, compact size, and useful features, and they also like how well it handles, especially on hills. That lines up well with its city-friendly design and everyday practicality, especially if you want a small SUV that is easy to live with. With 22.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2017 Chevrolet Trax reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centred on practical use, good fuel economy, and a compact footprint that suits daily driving. That kind of long-term approval suggests the Trax can be a sensible used buy if you value simple, predictable transportation. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright reliability and more about whether the vehicle’s comfort and equipment level meet your expectations over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Trax?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 22.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 103 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.19% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $10,891 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Chevrolet Trax's resale value?
The current average of $10,941 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,375 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Trax has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it harder for sellers to command top dollar right now. If you own one, you may need to price it competitively to stand out in the market. On the other hand, the lower entry point can help keep demand steady among shoppers looking for a practical, budget-minded small SUV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Trax or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 22.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.19% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 Trax makes the most sense if you want a small, city-friendly SUV with strong owner approval and a softer used-market price than it had a year ago. If you are price-sensitive, this year is worth a close look; if you want the best value, focus on well-priced listings near the lower end of the range and compare them carefully against other nearby model years.
