CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura TLX

Summary
With 63 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,585 CAD, 17.5% of 2017 Acura TLXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura TLX 4.8 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura TLX stands out as a premium sport sedan that tries to balance comfort, performance, and value in a single package. For this model year, it offered two engine choices: a 2.4-litre four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, or a 3.5-litre V6 paired with a nine-speed automatic. The four-cylinder version produced 206 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque, while the V6 made 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, and the V6 could be paired with SH-AWD. The base car also brought unusual hardware for the class, including an innovative four-wheel steering system, along with LED headlights and brake lights, a sunroof, heated front seats, and a two-screen infotainment layout.
What makes the 2017 Acura TLX especially appealing is how much equipment it packed into its trim structure. The available Technology Package added real leather seating surfaces, voice command capability, navigation, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system. An Elite Package for V6 models added 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, LED fog lights, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation. That mix of features helped the TLX feel well equipped without moving into full luxury-car pricing.
There are also a few drawbacks buyers should keep in mind. Owners have complained about the transmission, especially the nine-speed automatic, and the car’s back seat is cramped with not much cargo space. Even so, the 2017 Acura TLX remains attractive for shoppers who want a smooth-riding sedan with strong performance, a distinctive interior, and a broad spread of comfort and safety features.

Very responsive especially in sport+mode and shift manually. All wheel drive sticks to the road. Abosb bumpy roads like a champ. The brakes can use some improvement though. The transmission will hesitate in eco and normal mode. Just use sport and sport+ and itll take care of it. Although you can totally tell the difference in ride quality in each mode. 25 mpg all around for a V6 is not too bad. Very quiet interior. The upgraded sound system sounds better with Spotify than FM (with subscription gives you higher quality streaming). Would love to have Android Auto for Google Maps, but not offer till 2018. Wish we can retrofit the software. But overall, very happy with its value, performance and comfort.

2017 Acura TLX Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Acura TLX prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Acura TLX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,515 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $15,515 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $18,507 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,818 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.92% |
Prices have softened 12.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 62 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura TLX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, fast performance, and beautiful interior, and they also like the responsive handling in sport mode and its ability to absorb bumpy roads. That fits well if you want a premium sport sedan that balances comfort, performance, and value, especially if you care about a well-equipped cabin and a distinctive driving feel. With 21.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Acura TLX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers find dependable over time, with praise centred on its smooth ride and overall satisfaction. At the same time, some owners noted transmission concerns, especially in eco and normal modes, so used buyers should pay close attention to service history and how the car drives in everyday conditions.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura TLX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 21.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 62 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.92% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,515 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura TLX's resale value?
The current average of $15,515 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,818 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher average. Strong demand can still support resale, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura TLX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 21.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.92% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $20,430 CAD, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $15,515 CAD average.
- It adds a refreshed look and a faster infotainment system.
The bottom line: Choose the 2017 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for a clean, well-priced example. Consider the 2018 if you want the updated styling and tech improvements and are willing to pay more for them. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2017 is the stronger starting point; for shoppers prioritising newer features, the 2018 is worth the stretch.
