CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Acura MDX
Summary
With 13 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,868 CAD, 15.4% of 2017 Acura MDX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Acura MDX 4.75 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura MDX stands out as a three-row luxury SUV that blends family practicality with a more polished, upscale feel than many rivals. It has long been valued for its solid reliability record and reputation for quality, and it is also known for being comfortable and well equipped. For buyers who need space for passengers, the MDX’s third row remains part of its appeal, even if that seat is small.
What makes the 2017 model especially distinctive is the refresh that brought a cleaner look and made all of the MDX’s formerly optional safety systems standard. That year also marked the debut of the MDX Sport Hybrid, which paired a 3.0-litre V6 with a trio of electric motors and produced 321 system horsepower. Acura says the hybrid was faster and more efficient than the standard MDX, averaging 9.0 L/100 km combined and 9.1 L/100 km in city driving. Regular MDX models from this period also benefited from more standard features and nicer styling, which helps explain why they remain appealing used buys.
There are still a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The infotainment system is widely regarded as frustrating to use, and the MDX’s third row is tight. The Sport Hybrid is also rare, so shoppers may have trouble finding one. Even so, the 2017 Acura MDX remains attractive because it offers a strong mix of comfort, safety equipment, and everyday usefulness in a package that feels more premium than plain.

This car, the Acura MDX is a total surprise to me. The features are sophisticated and just the right amount of technology and swag that makes it an eye catching bang for my bucks. I came out of a Tahoe with great features and good looks that turned heads and attracted inquiries. My MDX is getting so many compliments and attention from my friends, family, and group members because the maintenance record was impressive and it has the look of luxury; it's a stylish vehicle, that boasts reliability second only to Toyota Lexus. I enjoy driving the MDX and the only thing missing is free oil changes.

How much does the 2017 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,496 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $19,496 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,933 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,925 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −18.51% |
Prices have softened 18.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 125 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Acura MDX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its luxury feel, spacious interior, and safety features. The smooth ride and available third row make it a practical fit if you want a premium SUV that can handle family duty without feeling plain.
With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2017 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the MDX as a vehicle they can count on over the long term. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and condition, since long-term ownership risk is always lower when the previous owner has kept up with service.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find value.
- Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 125 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.51% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $19,496 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $19,496 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,925 CAD.
That price movement suggests the MDX has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer market than before. If you buy at today's average, your resale position will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and service records. Well-kept examples should still hold appeal because the MDX continues to attract shoppers looking for a premium three-row SUV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a smart choice if you want the refreshed MDX with strong owner approval and a softer used price than last year. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby older year may be worth a look, but the 2017 remains the better all-around pick if you want a more premium-feeling three-row SUV with broad appeal.
