Why it stands out
The 2016 MINI Cooper stands out because it blends retro charm with genuinely playful road manners. MINI’s own pros and cons point to the formula clearly: retro style, premium features, lots of fun to drive, and huge customisation and upgrade potential, balanced against the fact that everything costs extra, the ride can be harsh at times, and the cabin is always going to be small. That character is a big part of the appeal, especially for buyers who want a small car with personality rather than something anonymous.
For 2016, the third-generation MINI Cooper is part of a generation that has been around since 2014, and the source notes that 2016 is one of the years that seems to have more problems. Even so, the car’s strengths are easy to understand. The standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder that makes 134 horsepower, and MINI says it is meant to be the economy version of this premium-feeling car. It is not fast, but it is still pretty fun to drive. The Cooper S is much quicker, and the generation also includes serious John Cooper Works versions, but the standard Cooper’s appeal is more about lightness, agility, and everyday enjoyment than outright pace.
The 2016 MINI Cooper also offers more usable packaging than earlier versions, even if it remains a small car. This generation is 12 to 25 centimetres longer than the second-generation models and offers a four-door variant, but the back seats are still tight and cargo space is restricted. Up front, though, most people will find plenty of room, including folks well over six feet tall. The cabin’s 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, light ring that changes colours with drive modes, Apple CarPlay, and navigation add to the sense that this is a small car with a premium, distinctive interior. Android Auto is not available at all, which is a notable omission, and the user feedback also points to missing Bluetooth music capability as a frustration for some owners.

I love the mini cooper. Sporty but good pick up on the gas pedal.

I believe the car is of great value. I enjoy the engine start switch vs. the button. It drives smooth and it’s easy to do 80 mph without realizing. The interior design is beautiful , as well as the exterior. The only thing I believe it is missing is the ability to play music on your phone via Bluetooth. It does have Bluetooth capability but only for phone calls. You’ll need a usb or aux cable to play music from your phone. Other than that I love it.

The vehicle was extremely clean and a blast to drive. It had extremely responsive handling with plenty of power to easily climb all the hills I challenged it to which was a needless concern of its 3 cylinder engine. For the most part, the ride was smooth, only “bottoming out” once and I took it on some pretty rural roads. It would be my ideal, economical, sports car. Great for running errands with the top down on summer days.

This lil car is a ROCKET! I am so pleased with what I paid. Doesnt really compare to anything else Ive driven... maybe a Civic? Not sure - are Civics crazy fast? :) Comfortable ride and crazy HP / torque! The car is attractive and its great fun to drive! Still figuring out all the bells and whistles, but no complaints! :)
