Owners commonly praise its good value, smooth driving, and spaciousness, and the passenger mirror camera is another feature that stands out in feedback. It also fits well if you want a practical subcompact crossover with SUV versatility in a small-car footprint. Is the 2016 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owner feedback also highlights reliability as one of the vehicle’s strengths, alongside its good value and smooth driving character. That said, some owners mentioned occasional starting issues tied to non-standard keys, so you should still check that the vehicle starts cleanly and behaves consistently during a test drive.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure any prior starting or drivability concerns have been addressed before you commit.

• Inventory: There are 87 listings available.

The current average of $14,403 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,241 CAD.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can make resale planning a little more competitive for future sellers. If you buy now, you may be entering at a softer point in the pricing cycle, which can help limit your upfront cost. For a seller later on, the key will be presenting a well-kept example that stands out in a market where buyers have choices.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a practical, value-focused used subcompact crossover with strong owner approval, the 2016 HR-V is a sensible choice. You should prioritise this year if you like the combination of versatility, space, and current pricing. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also keep shopping nearby model years and compare condition, mileage, and deal quality to see whether another year offers a better fit.
