Is the 2016 Honda Accord a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.38/5 user-rated car with an expert score of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, reliability, and impressive gas mileage, and many also value the safety features and interior quality. In practical terms, that lines up well if you want a sensible midsize family sedan that balances everyday competence with a reputation for keeping ownership worries in check.

Is the 2016 Honda Accord reliable?

The user feedback points to reliability, and the expert review also frames the Accord as a good hedge against unanticipated expenses. That same review highlights favourable reliability ratings and low insurance costs, which supports the case for dependable ownership.

Honda’s ownership-friendly positioning helps here, and the model’s reputation for keeping long-term worries in check is a meaningful plus for used buyers. Even so, you should still watch for the small flaws and isolated quality issues that some owners mention, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Accord?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Accord spans a wide range of equipment and budget levels, from the LX to the Touring CVT, with Sport and EX-L versions in between. Base versions are more basic, while higher trims add the upscale touches and technology that make the car feel more premium.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine, while the Sport gets a slightly stronger tune. If you want the 3.5-litre V6, you need to shop the EX-L V6 or Touring V6, and all versions are front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing brings forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on EX-L and Touring with both engines, and it cannot be paired with the manual transmission.
• Infotainment: The available system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with HondaLink connected services, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Siri Eyes Free. Every 2016 Accord also includes Bluetooth, streaming audio, text-messaging support, a USB port, and Pandora access.
• Fuel efficiency: The review records 9.6 L/100 km on a test loop, versus an official combined rating of 9.4 L/100 km. It also notes that open-road cruising can dip to less than 7 L/100 km.

Which 2016 Honda Accord trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Accord is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX-L, Touring CVT, EX-L V6, Touring V6.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Accord’s core strengths at the lowest starting price, but you’ll give up some of the richer equipment and convenience features found higher up the range.
• Sport: This trim adds a more athletic feel and is a good fit if you want a little more character without jumping to the top end of the lineup.
• EX-L: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it brings a more upscale feel and also unlocks the V6 option in V6 form.
• Touring CVT: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped four-cylinder version, with the richest feature set and the available touchscreen infotainment system.
• EX-L V6: This is the pick if you want stronger performance and a more premium experience without going all the way to the top trim.
• Touring V6: This is the most complete Accord here, combining the V6 with the highest equipment level for buyers who want the fullest version of the car.

Honda Sensing is standard on the EX-L and Touring with both engines, but it cannot be combined with the manual transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Accord?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a flood of deep discounts.

• Deal availability: 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 111 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.87% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,313 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Accord's resale value?

The current average of $15,353 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,421 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Accord has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. It also means the market is currently more favourable to shoppers than to sellers, so resale upside depends heavily on trim, condition, and mileage.

Because the Accord still has broad appeal and a strong reputation for reliability, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less trusted rivals. If you buy carefully now, you may be better positioned to limit your loss when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Accord safe?

The Honda Accord earns top marks in every NHTSA and IIHS assessment except for four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the key driver-assistance suite here, and it includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, road-departure prevention, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on EX-L and Touring with both engines, and Honda also makes it available on every version of the Accord, with the caveat that it cannot be paired with the manual transmission.

The main safety shortcoming is that rear cross-traffic alert and a traditional blind-spot warning system are not included. Instead, some trims use LaneWatch, which only monitors the right-side blind spot.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Accord or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Honda added meaningful improvements this year, including a stronger safety and technology package.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,883 CAD, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,353 CAD average.
• It is exceptionally well engineered and built to provide dependable service for many years.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the better all-round pick if you want the newer updates, stronger safety tech, and a still-reasonable used price. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in strong condition.
