CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan

Summary
With 157 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,074 CAD, 30.6% of 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan 4 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out as a compact SUV that aimed for a more premium, more engaging feel than many of its rivals. It was introduced for the 2009 model year as a slightly sportier alternative to vehicles such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4, and it was conceived with a smooth and responsive drive in mind. Front-wheel drive was the default drivetrain on the base Trendline trim, while 4Motion all-wheel drive was optional on that trim and standard on the Comfortline and Highline trim levels. Power came from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed manual on the entry-level model and a six-speed Tiptronic automatic on the rest of the range.
It also had a quality feel inside, and the 2012 model year update brought revised styling with a sleeker front end plus equipment upgrades. For buyers, that combination of upscale presentation, strong performance, and available all-wheel drive gives the 2015 Tiguan a distinctive appeal, especially if they want something that feels a bit more polished than the average compact SUV. The trade-off is that fuel economy was not especially strong, and the model has a weaker reputation for reliability, with engine, cooling system, and electrical issues noted in the source material.

The VW Tiguan is a great car so far. Perfect of my family of three.

I felt like this car was just a car and really lacked from not having all of the features listed in its description. This car does drive well. It has great acceleration and a very smooth ride. I felt it was spacious enough for my needs. It did have a backup camera but that seemed to be its only noteable feature. If you need a great set of wheels that take you to your destination than this will suffice. If your life requires other creature comforts, this might not be the best option.

Though it could use a backup camera, it’s a great value for the price.

2015 Volkswagen Tiguan Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,079 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $10,067 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $12,089 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,082 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −16.58% |
Prices have softened 16.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 161 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory for shoppers comparing used examples.
Is the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?
Generally — the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4/5 user rating, which points to solid overall appeal for shoppers who want a compact SUV with a more premium, more engaging feel than many rivals. It was designed to deliver a smooth, responsive drive, and its cabin was meant to feel more upscale than the average small SUV. That makes it a good fit if you value a polished driving experience and a quality-feeling interior more than maximum practicality or low running costs.
There are 29.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2015 Tiguan’s reliability reputation is weaker than its driving feel and cabin quality, with engine, cooling system, and electrical issues noted in the source material. That means you should treat a used example as a vehicle where inspection history matters a lot, especially if you plan to keep it for the long term.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 161 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.58% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $10,067 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?
The current average of $10,079 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,082 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Tiguan easier to buy now but may also limit near-term upside for a future seller. If you own one, the current pricing trend implies you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. A well-kept example should still attract interest from buyers who want the Tiguan’s more premium feel.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a compact SUV that feels more polished and engaging than many rivals, the 2015 Tiguan is the right direction to explore. If you’re more price-sensitive, you should still compare nearby model years, but the 2015 stands out when you find a clean example with strong maintenance records and a competitive asking price.
