CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan

Summary
With 119 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,257 CAD, 29.4% of 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan 4.75 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan stands out as a compact SUV that leans more towards a premium, car-like driving experience than a rugged utility focus. It was conceived with a smooth and responsive drive in mind, and front-wheel drive was the default layout on the base Trendline trim, with 4Motion all-wheel drive available on that trim and standard on the Comfortline and Highline. Power came from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, which gave it punchy performance, though fuel economy was not a strong point.
It also had a well-finished cabin that helped it feel more upscale than many rivals. The interior was described as roomy and good quality, and owners of the 2014 model praised its spacious interior and high-quality upholstery, saying it felt comfortable and luxurious for a compact SUV. That blend of comfort, solid road manners, and a premium impression is a big part of the Tiguan’s appeal.
There are trade-offs, though. The Tiguan’s reliability reputation is not especially strong, with engine, cooling system, electrical, and infotainment-related issues noted across the model line. For buyers considering a used example, that means the 2014 Tiguan is best suited to someone who values its driving feel and cabin quality enough to accept the need for careful inspection before purchase.

This car is loaded with features without the high price tag.I would compare it to a mercedes GLA 250 and the GLC 300 from the same year model Also is much cheaper to repair when you have to

I absolutely love this car! Its a push to start. It has cream leather seats, a panoramic sunroof with sun shade. It also has an option for SiriusXM radio. It drives smooth and runs well. I like that the cup holder has a sliding cover and that the sunvisors slide out and across for more coverage. I love the white paint color and the size of the car. The gas tank door is a push press type and isnt functioning properly but Im still able to open it to access the gas tank. Its easy to program the key to the car even with it not having an ignition. Its just overall a nice vehicle from the rear view camera to the controls that adjust the side view mirrors to the touch screen monitor for gps and radio. Its also been fairly easy to operate and learn this car.

Very comfortable. Easy to get in and out of if handicapped. Mine is pretty much loaded. Only wish it had a sunroof. Other than that I’m very impressed with the car. I love the way it handles and it’s very fast. Everything is at your fingertips. Great vehicle so far

The Tiguan is a great SUV, small looking from the outside but wait till you discover how spacious it is inside. The upholstery, leather or fabric, is neat and of a high quality. As for performance, need I say more? Definitely one of my choice cars to drive and own.

Is the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.75/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, high-quality upholstery, and comfortable, luxurious feel for a compact SUV. They also highlight its performance, handling, and feature set, with many comparing it favourably to pricier brands. With its premium-leaning, car-like driving character and roomy cabin, it suits you well if you want a compact SUV that feels more upscale than utilitarian. The market also shows 29.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people have found dependable enough to live with happily over time, especially when it comes to comfort and day-to-day usability. The positive comments about its trouble-free ownership experience are balanced by a few minor complaints, but the overall tone is still one of confidence in the vehicle’s long-term appeal. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that reliability concerns can become expensive if you skip a careful inspection and maintenance review.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 120 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.71% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $9,205 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?
The current average of $9,252 CAD sits slightly below last year's $10,599 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Tiguan has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilises. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit further value loss. The current spread between the year-round low and high also shows there is still room for pricing to vary based on condition, mileage, and equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.71% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a compact SUV with a more premium feel, a comfortable cabin, and strong owner approval, the 2014 Tiguan is the better fit. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you should also compare nearby model years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, price, and deal quality.
