CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Toyota Highlander

Summary
With 53 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,271 CAD, 39.6% of 2015 Toyota Highlander listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Toyota Highlander 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota Highlander stands out as a practical family SUV that blends comfort, space, and a strong reliability reputation. Toyota redesigned this generation for the 2014 model year, giving it a sharper, more muscular shape, and the result is widely regarded as the most stylish version of the Highlander. It also brought more technology and active-safety features, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking on top trims, while even lower-end models got forward automatic emergency braking and lane departure warnings.
For buyers, the Highlander’s appeal is in how complete it feels. Standard equipment included a 6.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a backup camera, USB ports, and 18-inch wheels, and the top Limited and Limited Platinum trims added near-Lexus levels of luxury features such as a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, and heated second-row seats. It was also offered with a hybrid powertrain, and the generation’s hybrid returned about 8.2 to 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, which helped make it more efficient than many midsize SUVs of its era.
There are a few trade-offs. The Highlander was praised for reliability and resale value, but it was also described as less exciting to drive, with infotainment and interior materials drawing some complaints on 2015 models. Still, for shoppers who want a comfortable, versatile, and long-lasting used SUV, the 2015 Highlander remains an easy vehicle to understand and a hard one to dismiss.

It’s hard not to love this car. It’s so solid. Smooth ride, handling is just right, and plenty of space for your family. Not to mention this will just keep running forever if you take care of it.

Like pretty much everything about it. Great features, and quite well laid out. Some pleasant surprises as I get to know the car better, such as hidden tonneau cover, plug and play capability, heater for the windshield wipers and more. Handles well in the snow.

The Highlander has been nice to drive and absolutely love all the great options being it that it’s a Limited Platinum which has pretty much everything I could ask for including the heated and cooling seats! Heated steering wheel etc! Highly recommend! Plus it’s a Toyota which makes me feel confident if it’s reliability.

Is the 2015 Toyota Highlander a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, and reliability, and many say the roomy back seats and overall driving experience make it feel luxurious. For you, that means it fits especially well if you want a practical family SUV that feels comfortable and versatile rather than sporty. With 40.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also a healthy share of attractive pricing in the market.
Is the 2015 Toyota Highlander reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to reliability as one of the Highlander’s core strengths, alongside comfort and spaciousness. That kind of owner confidence matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for everyday family duty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright dependability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and still feels fresh inside.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota Highlander?
It looks like a buyer’s market for this model year, especially if you are willing to compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 52 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.27% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,273 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota Highlander's resale value?
The current average of $20,279 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,512 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Highlander easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the good news is that the model’s reputation for comfort and reliability should help keep demand steady. The softer pricing also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.27% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a comfortable, spacious, and well-liked used family SUV, the 2015 Highlander is the primary year to focus on. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby years and look for the best-priced example with a strong service history.
