Is the 2015 RAM 1500 a good car?

With a 3.85/5 user rating and an 7.67/10 expert rating, the 2015 RAM 1500 lands as a strong but not flawless used pickup. The overview points to a truck that has aged well, with a comfortable interior, a capable chassis, and broad powertrain and cabin choices that let you tailor it from work truck to upscale cruiser.

Owners most often praise its powerful performance, luxury features, and comfort. They also like its towing ability and enjoyable driving experience, which fits the truck’s flexible use case well. Is the 2015 RAM 1500 reliable?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is presented as a truck that has aged well, and the expert summary highlights a capable, smooth diesel option alongside a chassis that still feels compelling. Owners describe it as powerful and comfortable, and many say they appreciate how well it tows and how enjoyable it is to drive.

The expert performance notes say the V6 and eight-speed automatic are “entirely unnoticeable,” which is a good sign for everyday dependability and refinement. The cost-effectiveness notes also point out that the modestly equipped truck is the best pick, and that the diesel can make sense if you plan to keep the truck a long time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that owner feedback includes concerns about engine issues and rust, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The truck spans a wide range from work-focused trims to luxury versions, and the base end is much more spartan than the higher trims. The 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen is optional in most trims and standard only above the Outdoorsman, while the luxury trims add the most upscale feel.
• Powertrain: You can find the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, the 5.7-litre Hemi V8, and the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel. The diesel is the efficiency play, but it carries a higher price, while the Hemi brings the strongest towing capability.
• Safety package: The truck includes standard airbags, pretensioning seatbelts, antilock brakes, brake assist, and electronic stability control with trailer sway control. Blind-spot monitoring is optional, backup camera availability is highlighted as important, and front and rear parking sensors are standard on Laramie editions.
• Infotainment: Look for the optional 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, which includes Bluetooth and SiriusXM satellite radio. Less expensive trims can have more basic systems, so equipment varies a lot by trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.6-litre V6 is rated at 13.9 L/100 km city and 9.5 highway in RWD, or 14.6/10.1 in 4WD. The 5.7-litre Hemi returns 15.7 city and 10.9 highway in RWD, or 16.2/11.5 in 4WD. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel improves to 11.5 city and 8.4 highway in RWD, or 12.1/8.8 in 4WD.

Which 2015 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, ST, SXT, SLT, Big Horn, Outdoorsman, Sport, R/T, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Laramie Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the most work-focused choice, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the truck and do not need much luxury equipment.
• ST: This is another basic, fleet-leaning trim that keeps the truck simple and functional.
• SXT: This sits near the entry end of the range and is best if you want a straightforward Ram 1500 without paying for extra comfort or tech.
• SLT: This is a popular pick and a sensible middle ground if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and value.
• Big Horn: This is the consumer volume model and the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more available content upgrades over the SLT without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
• Outdoorsman: This trim is a good fit if you want a more rugged-leaning setup, and it is also the point where the 8.4-inch Uconnect becomes standard.
• Sport: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more distinctive appearance and a sportier feel.
• R/T: This is the performance-flavoured choice, and it stands out with 22-inch alloy wheels.
• Laramie: This is where the truck starts leaning into luxury, and it also gets standard front and rear parking sensors.
• Laramie Longhorn: This is for buyers who want a more upscale, premium-feeling full-size truck.
• Laramie Limited: This is the top luxury choice, with the most attention-grabbing design treatment and the strongest upscale presence.

The safety package is broad, but blind-spot monitoring is optional and parking sensors are standard only on Laramie editions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 390 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.95% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,236 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $16,236 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,090 CAD.

That price movement suggests the truck is currently in a softer resale position than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, that means your return may depend more heavily on trim, condition, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

For a future seller, the good news is that the RAM 1500 still has appeal because of its comfort, powertrain variety, and upscale trims. The caution is that a truck with visible wear, rust, or mechanical concerns may be harder to position strongly in a market where prices have already eased.

Is the 2015 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2015 RAM 1500 earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and overall safety, and five-star ratings in side impacts from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The truck’s safety equipment includes standard airbags, pretensioning seatbelts, antilock brakes, brake assist, and electronic stability control with trailer sway control. Blind-spot-monitoring warning lights are optional, the backup camera is highlighted as a must-have, and front and rear parking sensors are optional on most models but standard on Laramie editions.

One caveat is that the truck’s safety tech is not uniformly generous across the range, so lower trims can leave you wanting more equipment.

Should I buy a 2015 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.95% compared with last year.
• The 2015 stands out for its aged-well design, strong comfort, and broad powertrain choice, including the smooth diesel option.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size pickup with a comfortable cabin, strong powertrain variety, and a market that has softened, the 2015 is a solid place to focus. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it closely with nearby years and prioritise the best-maintained truck rather than the newest badge.
