Is the 2015 RAM 1500 a good car?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is a solid pick if you want a full-size truck that leans more toward comfort and refinement than bare-bones utility. Owners rate it 3.9/5, and our experts give it 7.7/10.

The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners commonly praise its powerful performance, luxury features, and comfort, and many also like how well it tows and how enjoyable it is to drive. The overview also points to a truck that stands out for its interior comfort, handsome looks, and broad range of powertrain and cabin choices, so it can work well whether you want a basic work truck or something more upscale.

Only 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is somewhat selective even with plenty of trucks available.

Is the 2015 RAM 1500 reliable?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is described as a truck that has aged well, with a competent and smooth diesel powertrain and a capable V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Owners often describe it as powerful, comfortable, and enjoyable to drive, and some specifically value its ability to tow efficiently. The expert assessment also notes that the V6 and the ZF TorqueFlight eight-speed transmission are “entirely unnoticeable,” which is a good sign for everyday dependability.

If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that some owners have reported engine issues and rust, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The truck spans a wide range of trims, from work-focused versions to luxury-oriented ones. Lower trims are more basic, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment, and the Laramie editions also get standard front and rear parking sensors.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, or a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel. The diesel is the efficiency play, but it carries a higher price, while the V6 is described as capable and smooth.
• Safety package: The truck includes a standard suite of passive safety features, plus standard electronic stability control with trailer sway control. Blind-spot monitoring is optional, and the backup camera is highlighted as a must-have.
• Infotainment: An optional 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen is available on most trims and standard above the Outdoorsman. It includes Bluetooth and SiriusXM satellite radio, while less expensive trims can have more basic systems.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.6-litre V6 is rated at 13.9 L/100 km city and 9.5 highway in rear-wheel drive, or 14.6/10.1 in four-wheel drive. The 5.7-litre Hemi returns 15.7/10.9 in rear-wheel drive or 16.2/11.5 in four-wheel drive. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel improves to 11.5/8.4 in rear-wheel drive or 12.1/8.8 in four-wheel drive.

Which 2015 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2015 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, ST, SXT, SLT, Big Horn, Outdoorsman, Sport, R/T, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Laramie Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the work-site fleet choice, so it makes sense if you want the most basic path into the truck and care more about utility than extras.
• ST: This sits just above the Tradesman and is still aimed at buyers who want a straightforward truck without moving far up the equipment ladder.
• SXT: This is another lower-cost trim that keeps the focus on value and simplicity rather than premium features.
• SLT: This is a popular pick for buyers and a sensible middle ground if you want a more broadly appealing mix of equipment without stretching too far.
• Big Horn: This is the consumer volume model and the best-value trim to consider if you want a few more content upgrades over the SLT.
• Outdoorsman: This trim adds a more outdoorsy flavour and sits above the mainstream volume trims.
• Sport: This is aimed at buyers who want a more distinctive appearance and a more niche personality.
• R/T: This is the sport-oriented option in the lineup and gets 22-inch alloy wheels.
• Laramie: This is where the truck starts leaning into luxury, with more upscale appeal and standard front and rear parking sensors.
• Laramie Longhorn: This is one of the luxury trims for buyers who want the truck to feel more premium on weekends and beyond.
• Laramie Limited: This is the top luxury choice and the most upscale-feeling version in the lineup.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring is optional, while front and rear parking sensors are standard on Laramie editions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 430 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,034 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $16,704 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,941 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the truck is more attractive to used buyers now than it was a year ago. If you buy at today’s average, you may have less immediate downside than a shopper who paid closer to last year’s level.

For a future seller, the main takeaway is that this model has already moved through a meaningful price correction. That can help you buy more cautiously, but it also means resale upside may be more limited unless you find a particularly well-kept, well-equipped example.

Is the 2015 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2015 RAM 1500 earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and overall safety from NHTSA, and five-star ratings in side impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ram’s safety equipment includes a standard suite of passive features such as airbags, pretensioning seatbelts, antilock brakes, and brake assist. Trailer sway control is also standard through electronic stability control, and the backup camera is especially useful in a truck this size. Blind-spot monitoring is optional, and front and rear parking sensors are optional on most trims but standard on Laramie editions.

Should I buy a 2015 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.81% compared with last year.
• The truck’s mix of handsome looks, strong comfort, and two great powertrain options is exactly what you want.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size pickup that feels more refined than work-focused, the 2015 is a strong choice. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the softer pricing makes this year especially worth a look, but you should still prioritise condition and maintenance history because some owners have reported engine issues and rust.
