What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base DX is the most stripped-down version, while the LX adds the essentials you are likely to want, including heated front seats and heated side mirrors. The EX brings a more complete feature set, and the Touring adds leather seats, a power driver’s seat, fog lights, navigation, and a reversing camera.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and the drivetrain is front-wheel drive only. The CVT is tuned to feel natural and unobtrusive, and the engine is described as refined and adequate rather than exciting.
• Safety package: The Civic includes SmartVent front side-impact airbags, and EX and higher trims add LaneWatch. Models with the optional navigation system add a multi-angle reversing camera with a 180-degree view.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Touring adds the larger infotainment display with Siri Eyes Free support. HondaLink connectivity and services are part of the tech story, and the system also includes Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, text messaging support, and a USB port on the LX.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Civic sedan with the 1.8-litre engine and CVT uses 8.1 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway. In mixed driving, it averaged 7.4 L/100 km.

Which 2014 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, Touring, Si, Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the simplest entry point, but it is also the most bare-bones. You should only choose it if price matters more than convenience features.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the core comfort and convenience features you are likely to use every day, including heated front seats, heated side mirrors, Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, text messaging support, and a USB port.
• EX: This is the smart upgrade if you want more technology and convenience, including automatic climate control, a power sunroof, push-button start, HondaLink, a 7-inch display, and LaneWatch.
• Touring: This is the most luxurious Civic sedan in the lineup, with leather seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, fog lights, navigation, satellite radio, and a multi-angle reversing camera. It suits you if you want the most upscale version.
• Si: This is the sportier choice, with a revised suspension, more power, and larger 18-inch wheels.
• Hybrid: This is the efficiency-focused option, but it is a carry-over model and was only available by special order.

The EX and higher trims include LaneWatch, while models with the optional navigation system add the multi-angle reversing camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 23.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 286 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.96% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,149 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $11,149 CAD sits slightly below last year's $11,982 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also suggests future sellers may face a more competitive market if supply stays healthy. A model that has already moved down in price can be harder to resell quickly unless it is in especially strong condition or priced aggressively.

The Civic’s reputation for reliability and value should help support demand over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Honda Civic safe?

The 2014 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Civic’s safety story is built around its Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, which is designed to better manage crash energy, and SmartVent front side-impact airbags that are standard across the lineup. EX and higher trims add LaneWatch, while models with the optional navigation system add a multi-angle reversing camera with a 180-degree view.

One caveat is that LaneWatch is presented as a camera-based blind-spot aid rather than a traditional blind-spot warning system, so you should decide whether you prefer that setup.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 23.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more refinement and technology while staying a strong value proposition.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,343 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,149 CAD average.
• It is described as meeting and exceeding small-car buyer preferences for reliability, safety, fuel efficiency, quality, and value.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger buy because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and broad capability. If you are willing to pay more for a slightly newer model year, the 2015 is the safer alternative for buyers who want a more recent Civic and do not mind the higher asking price.
