What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The DX is the most basic version, while the LX adds heated front seats and heated side mirrors. The EX brings alloy wheels, automatic climate control, a power sunroof, two USB ports, a security system, automatic headlights, LaneWatch, keyless entry with push-button ignition, a 7-inch display, upgraded audio, and HondaLink. The Touring adds leather seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, fog lights, 17-inch wheels, navigation, satellite radio, and a multi-angle reversing camera.
• Powertrain: The main engine is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder with 143 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT on many trims. The drivetrain is front-wheel drive only, and the CVT is tuned to feel natural rather than intrusive.
• Safety package: The Civic includes SmartVent front side-impact airbags, and higher trims add LaneWatch. Models with the optional navigation system add a multi-angle reversing camera with a 180-degree view.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen, and the system supports HondaLink, Siri Eyes Free, and smartphone-style touch gestures. The LX includes Bluetooth connectivity, music streaming, text messaging support, and a USB port.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT-equipped sedan is rated at 8.1 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway, and the test average was 7.4 L/100 km.

Which 2014 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Civic is offered in 6 trim levels: DX, LX, EX, Touring, Si, Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• DX: This is the simplest way into the Civic, but it is also the most stripped-down choice. Buy it only if price matters more than comfort and convenience features.
• LX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the core comfort and tech features you are most likely to want without pushing the price too far.
• EX: This is the smart upgrade if you want the Civic to feel more modern, with the 7-inch display, HondaLink, push-button start, and LaneWatch.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale Civic sedan, with leather, navigation, satellite radio, and the reversing camera.
• Si: This is the enthusiast choice, with a revised suspension, more power, and larger wheels.
• Hybrid: This is the efficiency-focused option, but it is a carry-over model and was only available by special order.

The EX and higher trims add LaneWatch, while models with the optional navigation system add the multi-angle reversing camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 272 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.14% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $11,157 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $11,303 CAD sits slightly below last year's $11,916 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. If you pay close to the current average, your room for upside is limited unless the car is especially clean, well equipped, or unusually low in kilometres.

The Civic’s strong reputation for reliability and value should continue to support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on condition, trim, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Honda Civic safe?

The 2014 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Civic’s safety hardware includes SmartVent front side-impact airbags as standard equipment, plus an Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure designed to better manage crash energy. Higher trims add LaneWatch, which shows traffic on the right side of the vehicle, and models with the optional navigation system add a multi-angle reversing camera with a 180-degree view.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more refinement, tech, and safety equipment than the previous year.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,611 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $11,303 CAD average.
• It is a broader fit for buyers who want a straightforward, well-rounded compact car.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger buy because pricing has eased and the car still brings strong safety, reliability, and tech. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2015 is the safer secondary path for buyers who want a more broadly appealing compact car.
