Feels like I hit a brick wall in reverse

Asked by Eric Oct 06, 2020 at 12:06 PM about the 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A Budweiser semi backed into my wife at a
stop sign in a parking lot.  He pushed her
backwards  a few feet while she had the
vehicle in drive and her foot on the brake.  He
wasn’t moving very fast ($1,000 worth of body
damage).

That evening I backed the vehicle out of our
driveway and as I came to a stop in the street
it felt like I hit a brick wall.  I thought I had hit a
parked car.  The vehicle has done this a total
of 3 times now.

Any ideas?  Related to the accident or
something just coincidental?

Thanks!

That’s what I’m worried about. Check engine light isn’t on and it didn’t pull any codes at autozone. Could it still be the transmission if it’s not giving off any kind of notification?

They (my insurance company) told me that I needed to call the Budweiser truck’s insurance company to make the claim. I did, and have since been going back and forth with them for almost 3 months now! They’re adamant that because the bumper damage is so minor ($1060) that there shouldn’t be anything that damaged the transmission. Was hoping someone could explain how this incident “could” damage a transmission (or anything else internally for that matter).
