We have a 2006 Buick Lucerne that was having some bearing noise. Before my husband could get it replaced, due to field work, the bearing made a clunk noise and started to make horrific clattering sounds. The car then stopped completely. The transmission is not moving. Is the transmission shot? Or is there something broke that could be connected to the transmission. This all happened quickly without indication there was prior transmission problems.

The wheel bearing could have seized up, the axle could have snapped and yes the transmission could be shot. Have towed to a REPUTABLE mechanic and have them take a look at what's going on.
