I have a 2006 Lucerne CXS that sounds like the air compressor kicks on for the first 20 seconds after starting. Is the compressor bad or is it trying to fill up a leaking rear suspension?

everytime I start up for approximately 20 seconds, then goes off and makes
no more noise...

It's probably just filling the air shocks. If it stays off and makes no more noise I wouldn't worry too much about it

Thanks, probably means that I am losing a bit of air in the shocks, but Ic an live with that for a while.

Doesnt necessarily mean you're losing air. It bleeds out slowly when the car is off & then fills up again when you start it next time. If it was losing air while driving, youd hear the compressor activate again to compensate for the air that was lost

Found out it was the Smog pump...$90 part.
