1997 Mercedes S420 won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Previously replaced fuel pump.   Car has sat for awhile.  Will not start.  If I put fuel directly into engine it runs.  Fuel pump still good.  Car has fuel.  Suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated.
