The model we evaluated was a fleet vehicle, lacking the distinctive features that typically identify a Jeep, such as the seven-slot grille. Its design was generic, sharing similarities with other small crossovers like the Toyota RAV4. However, the interior of the Compass, particularly in the Limited trim, was a different story. It boasted a refined design with a black and gray colour scheme, complemented by caramel leatherette accents. The base model also impressed with its supportive cloth seats and a well-thought-out interior layout, featuring a large 10-inch infotainment screen and stylish silver plastic accents.

In contrast, the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid exuded style and presence across its two trim levels, Luxury and Ultimate Calligraphy. The exterior was marked by a massive grille, LED projector headlights, and distinctive LED daytime running lights. The Palisade's interior was equally impressive, offering a sense of craftsmanship and comfort. The base trim came with H-Tex synthetic leatherette upholstery and a host of features, while the higher trims added luxurious touches like Nappa leather upholstery. The Palisade's interior design was thoughtfully executed, with organic shapes and well-engineered storage solutions, providing a richer feel compared to other non-luxury crossovers.

The 2024 Jeep Compass featured a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive, the Compass offered improved performance over its predecessor. It had three driving modes and a rear-axle disconnect for fuel efficiency. However, its steering and handling were less impressive, with too much play off-centre and low grip. The Compass Trailhawk variant offered additional off-road capabilities, but at a higher cost. Fuel economy was estimated at 9.9 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 8.8 combined.

The 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid, on the other hand, boasted a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, producing a combined 329 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain, along with an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission, provided impressive performance for a three-row crossover. The Palisade Hybrid's handling was enhanced by its hybrid system, which optimized power distribution. Inside the cabin, noise and vibration were minimized, creating a peaceful driving experience. The steering was sharp, although the pedal feel was somewhat soft.

The 2024 Jeep Compass excelled in utility and ease of use. Its interior featured clear analog gauges, a large colour display, and physical climate controls. Visibility was good, and both front and rear seats offered ample space. The Compass provided competitive cargo space, with 770 litres behind the rear seat and 1,693 litres when folded. The front passenger seat also folded, allowing for easy transport of longer items.

The 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid offered a spacious cabin with 2,455 litres of total cargo capacity. While it trailed some competitors in cargo space, it provided more than others in its class. The second-row legroom was slightly compromised due to the battery's position, but the third row was still usable. The Palisade Hybrid featured dual-zone climate control, multiple USB-C power outlets, and comfortable seating for up to eight passengers. The cabin was filled with convenient storage solutions, enhancing its practicality.

The 2024 Jeep Compass came equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen featuring Uconnect 5 software. The interface was user-friendly, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features. A 10.3-inch digital instrument panel was available on higher trims, along with optional features like a wireless charging pad and a foot-activated power liftgate.
