Love this car. Has the T-VIS intake, has decent power and torque, but not until around 4k rpms. Love the 7500 rpm redline. Had a few issues but its smoothing out. Gas mileage is awesome. Great to drive, loves track time and getting rowdy on the streets.Oct 26, 2012

AE86 Corolla GTS, it was my all time favorite car when i was teenager, in fact i
still love this car!!! It equipped with a 4AGE 1.6L engine, rear wheel drive, with
the TVIS Toyota variable intake system, the air intake will increase at 4350rpm,
engine sound will be more fierce after the 4350rpm mark. Acceleration is kind of
slow, brake is ok, and handling was outstanding due to good balance of the
car, i love to keep full throttle entering the corner (due to it is underpower),
and the car can drift a little bit out of the corner which you will never got this
experience from a FWD Civic. The build quality is good, i used my AE86 as a
part time courier car, it had done over 180000miles on it without any major
problem. The styling is good, it looks like it never got old. Gas mileage is great.
Its just so fun to drive this little car! I owned three AE86 during my teenager
period, I really missed it!!!!Dec 06, 2011

First car I learnt driving in.
Made with tin cans, so its light as hell.
Engine is small and so is the output power, but with such a light body, this car is
rather spritely.
Handling isn't fantastic, but it will get you from point A to B without much fuss.
Since its small, parking isn't much hassle.
Gets quite good fuel economy despite the age.Oct 29, 2011

I love my AE86! This was my first car, and I still own it after nearly 11 years. I
paid $400 for it from a woman who bought it in California and drove it to
Canada a long while ago. It was originally an AVIS rental car and still had the
sticker in the back window when I got it lol. It only has around 60hp but being
my first car, I didn't care, was just so much fun to get out there and drive :)
This car never once left me stranded on the side of the road, only major
problem I had was the clutch needed replacing but rust soon became a very big
issue that needed to be taken care of. I currently have her stripped down to a
bare shell in my garage (check pics) and in time will be doing a full restoration
with a slightly more powerful engine and making her into a summer fun
car/weekend driver. I plan to keep her forever :DOct 26, 2011

body is rusted around wheels otherwise it runs well. It is still very comfortable after over 20 years. It rarely needs repair just routine maintenance. It accelerates well; good brakes and fun to drive. It does leak a bit of oil.Jun 18, 2011

Like it, it's a good start into any type of motor sport. Stylish, easy to work on, fun to drive. Gets great gas mileage, even when heavy on the throttle. Only downer is parts take awhile to get for it.Feb 15, 2011

Performance-Acceleration is awesome especially when u can get it to only weight
2000 pounds, handling is outrageous in this, takes 90 degree corners at 60 like
nothing.
Build Quality- Cant believe the amount of abuse this car can take. Toyota built this
car to last for ever...
Fun Factor- Is this car fun to drive? Hell yes its fun to drive, as long as you know
how to drive it and what the handling characteristics are on the car...Jan 23, 2011

Really good through corners but not any where near fast in a straight line... Would have been really great with a 2 liter engine and a better gearbox.
Cheap to run
Simple and easy to maintain
I build it from the ground up...Sep 25, 2010

super sturdy and best balance i've ever had in a car. its slow of the line but nothing
can touch it in corners. can be bought for under $2,000 and easy to maintain.
super fun to drive if corners are your thing.Sep 22, 2010

Performance is great still have to drop car and stiffen up suspension. Build Quality is good despite a few rattles and squeaks . Love the look of this car and it's Exclusivity very rare car. low on maintenance and is a lovely all round car,fun to drive on ...the open road and in town. Gets a bit thirsty if you keep racing the engine but otherwise very light on fuelJun 08, 2010

This is the car I autocrossed the most - the car that I went to driving school the most - this is the car that intruduced me to the tuner scene before there was a tuner scene. Incredible car for the stage of life I was in - looking for thrills but not looking for trouble - looking for fun without having to spend and without compromising on quality and reliability. Not fast by a long shot but one of the most FUN cars I've owned and the car that gave me my first real lesson in "performance driving" (not the same as merely driving fast, an idiot can do that) Feb 24, 2010

I've always been a fan of Corollas. Great fuel-efficient car. Decent power: this one actually felt like it had a stronger automatic transmission than my '01. Very fun car to drive: excellent daily commuter for short trips. Not as comfy on long trips as my '01, but not too bad.Feb 18, 2010

I just love everything about it 200,000 miles and still going. Paint still looks good and everything works sunroof, pop up lights. Great performance. Have put about 1000.00 into it. Gas mileage couldn't be better. Interior seats didn't hold up as good as I would have liked.Feb 04, 2010

easy to drive, comfortable, lots of space in the boot and lots
of leg room. great mileage per litre, low maintenance and
because of its abundance there are heaps of spare parts at
your local wrecker. Parts at an auto shop are quite cheap too,
plus the labour side of things is quite easy too. I do my own oil
and filter changes, plus spark plugs etcNov 25, 2009

TOYOTA built the trueno/levin in Japan to start a new era for lightweight sports cars. Equipped with the 4AG as its heart, the dual cam motor was stout and revved high. When upgaded, it's output can reach well past 200 hp NA (ex. Formula Atlantic). It's suspension dynamics are old school, yet predictable. The AE86 started a whole cult of spirited drivers from pros to your locals. A very rare car for hard core enthusiasts!Mar 31, 2009

Ever since being taken for a test drive in a Twin Cam AE82 Corolla when on work experience at a Toyota dealership, I have wanted to own one. A few years ago, prices for them had come down far enough for me to be able to buy it. Ok, the body is rusty, it feels a bit tinny and flimsy when closing the doors, and it's been in a couple of minor accidents (before I bought it, mind you), every time i drive it those issues seem like minor quirks. The performance, in its day, was class leading, and it was ahead of its time in having fuel injection and twin cam multi-valve technology, a fact proudly displayed rather garishly down each side. Even 20 years later, with tired suspension, substandard brake pads and over 250,000km on the chassis, its performance and handling is still enough to bring a smile to my face.Nov 18, 2008

Actually my second same kind of corolla over the times. Had one black as my first car (model year 1981) in 1993. Old spark hit again and I had to restore and enjoy another one.
Bought this silver one and restoredto its old glory. Upgraded the engine from terrible 1.1L (not original) to 1.5L from Liteace van and accompanied it with 5-spd gearbox. Looks of the car made even american car enthusiasts raise their thumbs :)
This car was sold early 2008 and is enjoyed in eastern Finland nowadays.Sep 04, 2008

This machine is the car of my dreams, and has been for many years. Its dated styling and simple RWD solid axle platform just add to its already strong old-school charm. Many may recognize this car from the late 90s japanese animation Initial D, as well as from Polyphony Digitals Gran Turismo series for the Sony Playstation (1,2,3).
Its 1.6 liter DOHC 16 valve (the 4AG-E) Yamaha-developped engine with a lofty 7300rpm redline putting out a mere 126hp in GTS trim may be laughable by todays standards, but back in 1983, it was the most volumetrically efficient motor ever released on a production car and its 2100 lbs curb weight made it a perfect first race car for anyone wanting to learn the ropes.
My car has been through 3 newer engines already, and updated 1994 high compression 20 valve Silvertop 4AG with inidividual throttle bodies ( 8000rpm) and a revised 20 valve, known as the Blacktop 4AG with lighter internals and even higher compression and redline were put to use.
The car now sits gutted open, stitch and seam welded with a custom transmisison cage and firewall to house a very special and extremely rare 2004 toyota Altezza RS200z engine and 6 -speed transmission. This engine, known as the 4th generation of the 2.0 liter 16 valve DOHC Yamaha developped 3SGE ( aka BEAMS) puts out 215 hp and revs to a stratospheric 8500 rpm, all while making a song that could make Metallica green with envy.Aug 03, 2008

I got this car when it had 132,000 miles on it. It ran like a top needing only an alternator and a clutch in the 6 years I owned it. I sold it for more than I had paid for it with 203,000 miles on it and it ran for that owner until 237,000 when the wiring finally started shorting out. It still ran but was sold for parts.May 18, 2008

Obtained vehicle from ebay last June 2007. Odometer at beginning 108k.
Have driven 20k; have only replaced tires and muffler. Looks good
inside/out and runs great ! After 3k miles oil level remains 'full'.May 14, 2008

I bought this car to be turned into a drift car. I know its not as sleek as an S15 or my FD3S but atleast its somthing I can take to autocrossing and drifting and track days and know if I post a good time it was all me and not some magical awd system or computer control system. If I make mistakes the car will let me know. NO ABS NO TRACTION CONTROL NO STABLITY CONTROL! NO AWD! NO ECU CONTROLING THE CAR! I LIKE!May 09, 2008

Great learner car for the great art of Drifting. Suspension is the only true weakness but that can be upgraded. The 4age engine is invincible and with disk brakes on front and rear it has excellent braking. All in all, a very fun little RWD carDec 19, 2007
