Great first car, has a nice kick to acceleration. Decent look to the car and only needed a couple repairs in the 2 years I had it. Not a bad car to drive. Hoping for the gas mileage to be a little better, but I live in the woods so there isn't much highway driving.
June 29, 2011The best car I own, and it was also my first car. Very reliable, going on 80,000miles plus and no problems at all. Every day I hop in turn the key and it starts right up. Wouldn't trade it for any other car in the world.
February 13, 2011Performance - everything is very good considering this is a $4000 car and I am getting a steady 30 mpg. Of course nothing is overly impressive but, isn't a let down either. Build Quality - Most of the car parts are light: doors, trunk, etc. The car in general is built very well though! It has needed no repairs. Only routine maintenance has needed to be performed. I have had this car for about 3 1/2 years now and it has been a daily driver. I have probably put close to 50,000 miles on it since I bought it. It is now pushing 140,000 and is still running like the day I bought it. Cost of ownership - for anyone who has to drive a lot and doesn't want to have to worry about a high maintenance vehicle, this is perfect! I consistently get 29-31 mpg with a mix of city and hwy driving. Fun Factor - 8 of 10 on country roads with 2 or less people in the car. Any more than that and the acceleration starts to decrease drastically. It is a 5 speed and it grips the road well. Also has a sun/moon roof.

July 26, 2008Owned since new for 6 years untill someone rear ended it. Crumple zone did it's job absorbing a 4000lb buick at 80+ km/h. Handled great. Drove like new till the day it was totalled.
March 31, 2008Two words.....zoom zoom... 10 years and still running great. I love it as much now as I did the day I drove it off the lot. Just wear and tear now, nothing major. Almost 200k on it. I drive it like it's a race car...Getting another mazda for sure!
January 9, 2010This car is a great around-town vehicle. Tight suspension, very peppy engine when in 3rd gear or higher and oerall I do not have any problems with this vehicle other than regular wear and tear. Very fun to drive and nice to look at! I don't mind driving this vehicle at all.
August 5, 2008I bought the car used and been enjoying it since. It certainly has the zoom zoom factor that most mazdas have and handles very good. The standard equipments are pretty good and is euipped well
April 17, 2008The Protege is a great car that handles amazingly in the city or out on the long bends. Great mileage followed up with a huge amount of low end torque that does seems to fade away quite dramatically after second gear, which requires a slightly different driving style to get any top end power out of it. Followed up with great reliability and low maintenence costs as well as a huge array of available modifications keeps the protege a welcomed addition to anyones garrage.
November 20, 2007I have owned this car for a year now, and i love it to death. Nothing serious has gone wrong, and have all reciepts. I am the 2nd owner. I have; Lowered this car 2.2", Custom cold air intake, Fidenza Short-Throw shifter, Razo Shift knob, Smoked Altezza Tail lights. Pioneer Stereo gear, Sony Xplod 120DB + Head.
March 5, 2008It is a good but small car. Reliable, but a very bumpy ride. The little horn goes MEEP-MEEP at the top of it's lungs! It's a nice car, but it's not a really good family car. Small interior, only 4 people can sit. But large trunk.
