I have had 3 of this Mercedes, it is one of the best Models Mercedes Made. Very Reliable, other than the normal wear and tear, if you replace the Mass Air Flow Sensors, and the wiring harness, this car is SOLID. Maintenance is low, and they go for many many miles if they are maintained correctly.Feb 19, 2022

One of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. This car was built to NEVER die.....it's bullet proof. I had a fan belt break and with the internal electric water pump (which I never knew about) was still able to drive another 50 miles home safely without burning up the engine (had heater running full blast). The body is fantastic and with tinted windows, it looks like one of the CIA's undercover cars. I LOVE IT.Sep 15, 2014

I first fell in love with its little brother- the 190E when I was in colledge.. A classmate, being the usual irresponsible teenager, drove me to his house in his fathers, then new 190E, without a valid license. It was back in 1995. It was very high tech then, with its multi-link rear suspension, and felt solid as a tank.
A couple of years later, it's bigger brother 200/ 200E came along.. It was love at first sight, and a great leap from the W123 it replaces..
Like the Countach, its design has aged well. It still looks modern even today, and some parts are actually used in the previous gen Chrysler 300C.
Another wonder is how the parts held up so well for 23 years. The cabin was still tight. Nothing fell off. The seats are still the best considering its age.
The engine still returns a decent 8km/L, no worse than a WRX or RX8, though progress is more leisurely..
I had it slightly done up with 17 AMG rims, and lowered it an inch without overtly sacrificing ride quality.. I'll be looking into the electrics at a later stage, as some of the wiring has slightly deteriorated.. I hope it's not the batch of 93's where MB actually used bio-degradable wiring looms.. A slight mis-calculation by their green-engineers, that there are actually people who keep their cars past 20 years..
Apart from the slightly feeble engine (...less than 150bhp...very weak by todays standards..) I still love her to bits...

The car is a good looking family car that rides well on the highway with good gas mileage. The car provide excellent peformance and the color of it (silver color) makes it look very emaculate- suitable for executive use. Low maintenance frequency.Feb 15, 2013

in most cases concerning an older import such as my 1994 e320 versus buying the same year honda accord is virtually a no brainer. in some cases the benz is priced the same or a lot of times less. my engine blew in my 1998 toyota camry. this car was serviced religiously by me. started looking at hondas , toyotas , etc , etc,. finally looked at a few mb's. logic tells you in most cases as expensive as these cars are new ,they have been more than likely well maintained by the previous owners. thought , hey, they have the the autobahn over there where they build them. these cars are built for high speed and must be built to take such abuse! the american versions have had an easy life with our low speed limits!!
as far as up keep and parts? i maintain it myself and an oil change is the same as any other car except you need 2 more quarts of oil.( thats a good thing). parts are available at my local autozone. my new brakes were 6.00 CHEAPER than on my 98 toyota! and easier to install! it getsa better than 30 mpg on the interstate at 75mph. a little weak on take off but comes alive at 3200 rpm s. hold on! im a bona fide benz guy from here on out. its not about being high falootin! its the best choice.and its the most logical. This is my 4th Benz, and I have always loved this body style, even better than the newer wagons that followed. The car has been great, and while I wouldn't mind some of the features in the newer E-class and am looking at getting one, I would keep this just because its such a classic.Dec 12, 2011

LOVE it.
Not many cars can match the W124 for reliability, build-quality and low maintenance cost.
Performance varies with models,
handles like how a car should;
bigger engine capacity surprisingly gives better fuel economy (possibly due to superior power to weight ratio);
low maintenance cost makes it a very feasible daily drive or workhorse even for people who clock up alot of mileage;
parts are cheap and abundant.
Comfort is not compromised in this car, ample space overall in front, rear and boot space too; ride comfort is very good.
Fuel economy cannot be compared to small japanese cars, this is a full-sized saloon; although expressway cruising can get back very good fuel economy.
Car has sentimental value too, it is a "young-classic" and has already entered books for tank-like build quality and reliability. Oct 27, 2011

A very solid, beautiful and fast car! The stability is great, but after all if you want to slide it, it won't be a problem. And it's not breaking down often. It has 6 cylinders, thats good! It's quite comfortable for a 4 seats coupe. It's sure one of the best car ever made!Feb 07, 2011

also sportive -agressive -durable and in short a manly machine.This is my 12th car
may be one of the oldest but honestly saying better than all the previous including
wauxhall 2.0 and opel gt ...Cars today are nearly the same in size and in shape-
for example if you have a focus or a toyota you can see and meet many other of
them in the streets and car parks BUT it is not easy to see such classic cars like

W124 chassis models are great cars. Certain ones only had one issue, which was wire harness deterioration. This effected sensors and triggered the CEL check engine light also effected the EA electronic accelerator. Some other nuisances was the ASR or traction control. Actually it is a 300ce-24 not 320 about 217hp from 0-100 in 7.9...max speed 245km/h..Da car is fantastic but it had much gear problems and da cruise control waz a bit clunky but i admit da car is fun to drive and prestigious and in da same time cheap and fuel saver....Sep 13, 2010

to drive enough performance with 2.0 lt - good braking and acceleration - funny to
drive - low mechanical problems - you may find reachable prices - air conditioning

I love this car, because it was my first ride :) It was one of the last cars from Mercedes Benz that was without that much electronics as nowadays. She is a direct german import. She's a symbol of class, integrity and weatlh. She's also one of the safest, most comfortable, most powerful and fastest cars around.
She reaches a top speed of 210kmph in about 45 seconds
The buid is that of superior craftmanship
She is still timelessly elegant
She's not too expensive to run. about 9.5kms per liter

Performance-Slow off the line in high heat, Superb passing
power. A beast in the 60-80mph range. 275hp V8.
Build Quality-It's needed some stuff, but only because of
its age. Been excellent lately.
Appearance-Deep black finish makes it so it always looks
good, doesn't get messed up as easily as other black cars
I've seen. Interiors great, the color is still vibrant.
Germans don't like cupholders.
Cost of Ownership-about 20 mpg, so not bad... I get
better gas mileage when I don't carry passengers or
instruments, and in cooler weather.

My model is the 230 E basic with a four cylinder 2.3 ltr petrol engine,it's more than powerfull enough for the car.
It has a dent in the door as the wind caught the door and broke the retension bar.
The interior is almost A1 as is the exterior.
There is vritually no rust I can see, and it's parked outside all the time.

it is a great car it gets great gas mileage and is really comfortable to sit in and performs awesome for a saden. but repairs are heavy but not often. trunk space is great. 3.6 liter inline 6 engine. 6 gallon gas tank and 2 gallon reserve tank. great car!!!Jul 30, 2008

With it's powerful V8 engine and automatic gearbox this car is so great to drive.
It's 280hp and 400Nm gets it to its limited top speed of 250km/h pretty fast. Also the build quality and reability is top class.May 16, 2008

This car is awesome. It is affordable, great on gas, excellent performance, handling, safety, etc. Acceleration is amazing! I can go from 0 to 140mph in no time and car would stay glued to the road, just like you go 70... I need to get Z rated tires for it. Everyone complements on interior. You can't deny it, it's beautiful. Leather is expensive Mercedes leather, seats feel tight. I can drive it all day long and will not feel tired. Ass won't hurt LOL! Anyways. I highly recommend it. The W124 series represents the last of the traditional Benz coupes - bulletproof engineering, bank-vault solidity and classic good looks. Lexus / Acura / Infinity entered the scene and changed the game in the mid-90s; it took Mercedes almost a decade to get back in the game with the W211 E-class.

One of the most classic cabs built. The 124 body was the last of the real MBZ quality cars. I am an original owner with 40,000/showroom condition in red. It has never presented a problem and gets more comments due to being rare and well styled. Looks great with the top up or down!
