I drove my 1980 Z-28 right out of the showroom with 8 miles on it.
I loved that car to death. Living in NYC without the advantage of having a garage, the T-Tops were stolen more times than I can remember. They were very much in demand and because of this, each time they needed to be replaced, they needed to be special ordered. Needless to say, the tablecloth I used as a tarp to protect it from the rain did not work very well to keep the inside of my baby safe from the rainy summers.
Eventually, the carpeting began to wear thin and the electrical wires underneath began to short out.
The body began to warp, as well.
But when she was on the open road, boy did she sing.

One of the best looking camaros of all gens. Vacuum system is a nightmare. This has factory A/C and I haven't even started on getting that to work. Trying to get brakes solid so I can get mufflers and cat replacedAug 11, 2013

Performance - acceleration is great, gets right off the line no problem,
braking is okay as it is but i need to replace the master cylinder and bleed them
alot,
handling is great very surprised
Build Quality - has it needed repairs? needed no major repairs
Appearance - out side need paint and inside needs a new dash witch i have and
will be puting in as soon as i get the other car parted out
Cost of Ownership - gas mileage sucks on this car its a 305 5.0L and i plan i to
put proformence heads, cam, intake, carb, roller rockers. and .100 longer push
rods.
Fun Factor -this car is the funnest car i think in driving. the back end if you pin it
will start sliding to your right and it drifts great.
btw i am only 17 and this is my first car.

What I like about this car, it is old and it has potential to be a very nice peice of automotive art. What I do not like about it is the old technology some of the 80's ugly and the fact that it is going to cost me alot of cash to put it the way I want it. I want to mix it up, old and new.... a 383 stroker, Hotchkis Suspension
4 wheel disk breaks, rack and pinion steering, 17 inch wheels, lower it 2 inches, older interior, newer gauge cluster, Black, Pweter, Red with red interior. Leather/ Sued interior, full dual exhaust, pollished tips and a hidden modern sound system. Power windows, door locks, trunk, mirrors, air conditioning, fuel injected and quick.Jul 03, 2010

had a 1980 stock w/t-tops 4 a while. believe it had 288?, rear-end gears,and a 250 turbo. after a couple years i took the 229 to a machinist,bored it .030, re-seated the valves,stepped up the cam,and 4-barreled it.then put a b&m light shift kit in a turbo 350.with a set of traction bars , 225's in front 245 in rear,Eagle ST's .it was no tire burner, but it went from 50mph -90mph pretty well.perfect for a pass on the hwy.but still managed to get decent mileage.traded it in '94 for a dodge shadow when i got a family. best damn chevy i ever owned. :)

it dosn't have cup holders, but when your going 150, who needs cup holders? only problem is i have gotten tons of speeding tickets going really really really really fast. The engine is fabulous but thats because it was built that way. from stock, its not really that fast. however the suspension was advanced and ahead of its time so it'll take the I-215 interchange at 90 mph... i would knowNov 10, 2009

Still needs a lot of work. Working on tuning the carbs right now. Some interior work needed, and next summer it's going to have the body redone. All in all it is a VERY fun car to drive around town.Nov 04, 2009

barely needs repairs, paint is original, this car is amazing to
drive to beat those imports to the ground. It can do 0-60 in
4.1 seconds, braking system is front discs and rear drums and
it handles nice with my new tires on her.Aug 08, 2009

The stock 350 is only 190 horses and that pushing
a 3660 lb car doesn't come out to great
performance. About 16 seconds flat in the quarter
but I have a second 350 in it now which is
supposed to be around 310 horses and the
suspension is good and 350 block has serious
potential. Working the engine now to displace 408
cubic inches and pump out about 600 horses
naturally aspirated. I plan on putting nitrous either
way but if I decide to supercharge it too I'm
planning for 8 to 900+ horses. T56 tranny wit a
dana 60 rear with 4.11 gears and a detroit locker.
Koni shocks with 4 wheel slotted and vented discs
around. Single driver's racaro racing seat with 4
point seat belt. Performance clutch, cut out exhaust,
cat-back system for normal driving. It's going to be
one mean Z28.Jul 22, 2009

Very basic right now. Stock 305, well hell stock everything. Performance upgrades to be done are a Ford 9in rearend rear disc brake conversion, beef up the t-350 tranny and build a ground up 383 stroker motor. Overall very attractive car and fun to work with.Jul 15, 2009

Performance- It had a bit done, so it was quick
enough for me.
Build Quality- Well I know enough to keep an old
car running, just have to put in the work.
Appearance- You either love it or hate it.
Cost of Ownership- It's an old car with a V8 and
4.10s, it's going to drain you pretty quick.
Fun Factor- Hmm, 4-speed, 4.10s, hopped up 350,
sounds like my idea of a fun car!Jul 10, 2009

Cool old classic muscle car. Fun to drive with heaps of power. Don't handle as well as modern cars but what do ya expect from a 29 year old muscle car. Built big and solid you just can't go wrong.Jun 24, 2009

I bought this car back in the summer of 2007 for a very cheap price. I plan to rebuild this Camaro and turn it into a nice peice of American muscle. I plant on painting it either black with Z/28 stripes or red with Z/28 stripes. Time and money will tell.Jun 09, 2009

i love this car because it is fast and nice, it has red interior and and very nice black paint job on the extreior. Fast acceleration, correvette engine and unbelievably nice.
If anyone is thinking of getting a nice old muscle car think about getting a 1980 camaro z28 for the winAug 28, 2008

It was the best. It had T-tops and a 5.7L Corvette engine, dual exhaust and IROC wheels with 60's Eagle GT tires. I had to sell the car when I got engaged as my fiancee hated how loud it was when I pulled up to her parents house. Wish I had that car now.Aug 21, 2008

I love my Z28, Handles well for a car of it's time, The swapped engine has PLENTY of power. Love the look and feel. Breaks well, Fantastic acceleration. Isn't great on gas, but if you aren't flooring it, it isn't actually that bad. Most fun I've ever had in a car.Aug 08, 2008

What can I say? It was my first sports car!! It wasn't beautiful but it was still a Camaro! It got me and my brother from Edmonton to calgary in just "under" 2 hours! That was also the trip that blew up 2 cylinders and the oil pump:(Jun 26, 2008

well it used to be fast, until i changed the rear end for gasoline reasons. it had its bad days as well, a few wrecks and dings, none of which by me. 1 by my sis, one by my dad, 1 by my friend, and one by the owner before me. its got a nice 350 in it but it definitely could use some help in the horsepower departmentJan 06, 2008

I bought my first Camaro (used) when I turned 18. It was fun to drive and had alot of new features. I liked the looks and performance of this new Camaro body-style. Away with the chrome bumpers and some of the trim pieces. I especially like the dash and the instrument cluster. I would drive around town and most of my friends would ask if they could have a ride since I was the only one with a sporty car. It was a good car that didn't break down very often.Jul 08, 2007

This was my first car in the world and my parents bought it for me when I turned 16.5 years old. It had bucket seats and a sweeping center console. The exterior lines were flowing and curvy like it could cut through water. I always admired the Z28 model of the same year, but this one didn't have the tail fin or the fender flares - it was pretty basic. It had a small V8 (I think it was a 305) with nice power, but not enough to boast about. It took me all of 3 months before I started tearing it apart to find out how it all fit together. I enjoyed this vehicle and hated to see it passed down to my sister, but I got something better out of the deal - another, more attractive and faster Camaro.May 25, 2007
