| 2014 | $22,226 CAD | $19,321 CAD – $25,568 CAD |
The Toyota Tacoma's current nationwide average price is $45,437 CAD, and its lowest point over the past year was $44,383 CAD. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Tacoma a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Tacoma is a strong choice if you want a truck with a durable, rugged character and long-term appeal.
The all-generations owner rating is 4.53/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, off-road capability, and strong resale value. They also frequently highlight its rugged design, durability, and everyday usefulness for both work and recreation.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs across recent expert-tested years centre on cabin noise, cramped rear-seat space, and interiors that lean functional rather than plush. Some versions also bring underwhelming base-engine performance and pricing that sits high for the class.
31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tacoma models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the Tacoma for durability, reliability, and strong resale value. Expert reviews also reinforce its long-standing reputation for toughness and off-road capability.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tacoma between 4.2 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that older examples can carry higher asking prices, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tacoma?
Key things to evaluate:
- Fuel efficiency: The 2024 Tacoma is expected to get 11.9 L/100 km combined with the manual transmission and as low as 11.2 L/100 km combined with the automatic.
Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers these trims:
- Tacoma: The standard version brings the 2.4-litre turbocharged i-FORCE engine, 4WD, an eight-speed automatic, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, making it the best-value starting point for buyers who want the core Tacoma experience.
- TRD Sport: This trim adds sport-tuned shocks and a more road-focused setup for buyers who want a sharper everyday feel.
- TRD Off Road: This version adds monotube Bilstein shocks and 17-inch off-road alloys, making it the clear pick for shoppers who want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware.
- Premium packages: These add a 14-inch centre display, heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, and a more upscale equipment mix for buyers who want more comfort and tech.
- TRD Off Road packages: These add 17-inch off-road alloys and the off-road-oriented hardware described in the expert review, making them the choice for buyers who want trail-ready equipment.
What Toyota Tacoma do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tacoma years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 454 | 38.3% |
| 2023 | 404 | 34.7% |
| 2025 | 335 | 38.2% |
| 2022 | 329 | 29.8% |
| 2021 | 221 | 25.3% |
| 2026 | 181 | 37% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also tend to attract shoppers looking for newer features while still staying within the used market.
What is the Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The 2018, 2023, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Toyota Tacoma now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −17.44% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.62%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38.2% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 38.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $53,463 CAD. The Toyota Tacoma offers a rugged, work-ready character that has helped make it a long-running favourite among truck shoppers.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Tacoma pairs a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and the hybrid setup reaches 326 horsepower with 10.0 litres per 100 kilometres combined.
- Tech: The latest Tacoma brings an 8-inch standard screen, a 14-inch centre display on Premium packages, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
- Safety: The latest Tacoma adds Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, oncoming vehicle collision avoidance assist, road-sign assist, and an emergency stop system.
- Starting price: The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes at a base MSRP of $46,950 CAD.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

Toyota Tacoma test drive
overall
The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in Canada in two configurations and six packages, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024. We traveled to Malibu, California, to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
