| 2014 | $22,400 CAD | $19,345 CAD – $25,521 CAD |
The Toyota Tacoma's current nationwide average price is $45,878 CAD, and its lowest point over the past year was $44,318 CAD. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Tacoma a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Tacoma is a strong used-truck choice if you value durability, resale strength, and off-road capability. The all-generations owner rating is 4.53/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, rugged design, and overall performance, and many also highlight its strong resale value and everyday usefulness. Across the model years, the Tacoma is also repeatedly described as a dependable truck that works well for both commuting and tougher tasks.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that show up in expert reviews are a noisy cabin, a functional-feeling interior, and manual-adjust seats that can be troublesome in some versions. Even so, the Tacoma remains a compelling used buy for shoppers who want a truck with a proven reputation and broad appeal.
30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Tacoma models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the Tacoma’s durability, strong resale value, and rugged build quality. Across the model years, it is repeatedly praised as a dependable truck that can handle daily use and harder work with confidence.
- Owners rate the Toyota Tacoma between 4.2 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is generally tied more to age, mileage, and how the truck was used than to the Tacoma nameplate itself.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Tacoma?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, oncoming vehicle collision avoidance assist, road-sign assist, emergency stop system, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: 8-inch centre display with Toyota Audio Multimedia, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: 11.9 L/100 km combined with the manual transmission and as low as 11.2 L/100 km combined with the automatic.
Which Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers these trims:
- Tacoma: The standard 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder i-FORCE setup with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, plus 4WD and an eight-speed automatic, makes this the best-value starting point for shoppers who want the core Tacoma experience.
- TRD Sport: Sport-tuned shocks and a more road-focused setup add a sharper feel for buyers who split time between commuting and weekend use.
- TRD Off Road: 17-inch off-road alloys and monotube Bilstein shocks add trail-ready hardware for buyers who want stronger off-pavement capability.
- Premium packages: The 14-inch centre display, heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seats, and added convenience features make these the most upscale Tacoma versions in the lineup.
What Toyota Tacoma do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Tacoma years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 494 | 35.8% |
| 2023 | 450 | 31.1% |
| 2025 | 364 | 35.7% |
| 2022 | 333 | 29.7% |
| 2021 | 233 | 26.6% |
| 2020 | 190 | 24.2% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the most popular because they give you more inventory to compare, more trim and price choices, and a better chance of finding the right combination of equipment and value. They also tend to attract shoppers who want newer features without moving all the way to the newest model year.
What is the Toyota Tacoma's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $59,169 CAD | −13.55% |
| 2015 | $23,941 CAD | −12.73% |
| 2014 | $22,400 CAD | −12.08% |
| 2024 | $53,846 CAD | −9.13% |
| 2021 | $43,192 CAD | −5.64% |
| 2020 | $40,351 CAD | −5.61% |
| 2016 | $29,297 CAD | −4.8% |
| 2022 | $44,087 CAD | −4.78% |
| 2019 | $38,327 CAD | −4.71% |
| 2023 | $48,747 CAD | −4.24% |
| 2017 | $33,929 CAD | −4.1% |
| 2018 | $35,725 CAD | −2.87% |
Most Tacoma model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want to benefit from softer pricing. The largest drops are concentrated in the newest and oldest years, while several mid-cycle years show smaller declines.
The 2018, 2017, and 2023 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Toyota Tacoma now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −13.55% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.13%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35.7% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 35.8%.

Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Tacoma uses a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, and the automatic is estimated as low as 11.2 L/100 km combined.
- Tech: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and Premium packages add a massive 14-inch centre display.
- Safety: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 adds Lane Tracing Assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, oncoming vehicle collision avoidance assist, road-sign assist, and an emergency stop system.
- Starting price: The 2024 Toyota Tacoma comes at a base MSRP of $46,950.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

I bought the Limited to get the retracting running boards for easier access. It has everything you can think of and then some. It has a dash cam to record your drive. Not something I will ever use. It has remote start from an app on your phone. After year one its $15 a month. Ridiculous! It rides nice with a solid feel and has plenty of power when you need it. Yes the back seat is a bit small but doable for average height passengers. The dash screen is too big in my opinion, almost obstruct your view to the right side of the truck. The seats are comfortable and the seat position is good. The fit and finish is good!

The Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab not to be confused with Double Cab. Is new though I bought it used but at 17K it's close to new. While I haven't had it long enough for a full review. I have had Toyota PU's before and the last one I had went 225,000 miles and I still sold it for $2200 9/10 years later after I moved from MN to FL. This one has great pickup off of the 2.4 Liter Turbo and though it takes a climb to get into I'm looking into side railing steps via online suppliers. Overall I am happy with the purchase though I did bite in on the extended warranty since my trade in a downpayment brought the montly costs down low enough to make it affordable. I see F-150's and F-250's and Dodge Ram Trucks of similar make and size but for my money Toyota Truck are legendary for their ability to take wear and tear.

The Tacoma is still truckin' right along. Toyota marks the start of the model's fourth generation with a ground-up redesign.
The fourth-gen Tacoma is also the first Tacoma to share a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra. (The TNGA-F platform also underpins the Sequoia and the just-revived Land Cruiser.) It launches in Canada in two configurations and six packages, each powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Tacoma's first-ever hybrid powertrain is due in the spring of 2024. We traveled to Malibu, California, to drive the all-new Tacoma in all of its gas-only guises.
