What should I look for when buying a used Subaru WRX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology, available with the CVT on the 2023 Sport and Sport-Tech trims, adds adaptive cruise control, automated lane-centring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: Subaru Starlink touchscreen infotainment with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, with either dual 7-inch touchscreens or an 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen depending on trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The WRX's Natural Resources Canada fuel economy ratings of 10.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined (12.3 city, 9.0 highway) with the manual transmission and 11.2 L/100 km combined (12.7 city, 9.4 highway) with the CVT are respectable for a performance car.

Which Subaru WRX trim should I buy?

The 2023 Subaru WRX offers these trims:

• WRX: The entry model brings the standard 6-speed manual transmission, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 17-inch alloy wheels, standard summer tyres, Subaru Starlink with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the WRX’s core performance character at the lowest price point.
• Sport: This trim adds the 11.6-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite with the CVT, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, and available CVT convenience; it stands out as the best-value choice for many buyers.
• Sport-Tech: The top trim adds the 10-way adjustable bucket driver’s seat, Ultrasuede upholstery with red stitching, steering-responsive headlights with automatic high beams, and an 11-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, making it the pick for shoppers who want the most comfort and equipment.

What Subaru WRX do most buyers choose?

The Subaru WRX years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2025.

These higher-volume model years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more inventory to compare and a stronger chance of finding the right trim and price combination. They also tend to attract more attention from used buyers because they sit close to the current generation and offer a familiar mix of performance and everyday usability.

What is the Subaru WRX's resale value?

Most WRX model years are down year over year, and several have posted double-digit declines. That pattern favours used buyers, since it opens up more room to find value across the range. The smallest changes are concentrated in the newer and lower-priced years, which suggests those versions have been moving more steadily than the rest.

The 2023, 2021, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Subaru WRX safe?

• 2023: 9/10
• 2022: 5/10
• 2020: 9/10

The 2023 WRX includes Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology on CVT-equipped Sport and Sport-Tech trims, adding adaptive cruise control, automated lane-centring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning.

For the safest used buy, the 2020 and 2023 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
