Are RAM 3500 models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the RAM 3500's strong towing ability, durable heavy-duty hardware, and comfortable cabin as major strengths. The truck's reputation is also supported by owner feedback that often highlights dependable performance for demanding work.
- Owners rate the RAM 3500 between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most closely tied to maintenance history and how the truck was used, especially on higher-mileage diesel examples.
What RAM 3500 do most buyers choose?
The RAM 3500 years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Should I buy a used RAM 3500 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:

- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 32.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 32.7%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $68,743 CAD.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the newest version, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Love my new truck! It has space for the whole family. Works as hard as a man with two child support payments to two different baby mommas! And rides a lot better than I would have expected it would.

Why it stands out
The 2021 RAM 3500 stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious capability with a much more polished feel than the workhorse roots of the nameplate might suggest. In this generation, Ram put a strong emphasis on luxury and technology, while also giving the truck a stronger frame, new suspension, and a new transmission for the Hemi models. It also offers impressive capability, with towing of more than 15,875 kilograms and payload of almost 3,600 kilograms, which helps explain why it appeals to buyers who need a truck that can handle demanding jobs without feeling stripped down.
The 2021 model year also benefits from a long list of available equipment that makes it easier to live with every day. Features available by this point include a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, a 12-inch vertical infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 750-watt Harman Kardon 17-speaker audio system. Ram also added a digital rearview mirror for 2021, along with a max tow rating increase of 900 kilograms. Owners commonly praise the truck’s towing ability, handling with heavy loads, and spacious cab, though some note that the cabin could be larger for taller drivers and that a few features, such as a security alarm, may be missing.
