How much does the Nissan Altima cost in today's market?

Used Nissan Altima prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Nissan Altima's current nationwide average price is $16,670 CAD, and its lowest point over the past year was $16,205 CAD. Recently, prices have come down for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the Nissan Altima is a strong used-car pick if you want a comfortable, well-equipped midsize sedan with broad appeal. The all-generations owner rating is 4.47/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently praise the Altima for its comfortable ride, fuel economy, and practical everyday value. Across the model years, the cabin comfort, smooth driving feel, and useful technology come up again and again as reasons shoppers like it.

Expert feedback also points to the Altima’s stylish design, easy-to-use technology, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada as recurring strengths. The main trade-offs are the fairly pedestrian performance, the interior materials, and the outdated technology in the newest model year.

Expert reviews rate the 2022 and 2020 models among the highest across all years.

22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Nissan Altima models reliable?

• Owners rate the Nissan Altima between 3.83 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully because some model years are praised for comfort and efficiency while others draw concern around the CVT and repair history.

What should I look for when buying a used Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360
• Infotainment: an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: The Altima AWD should burn 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in S trim and 8.4 L/100 km in other trims in combined driving.

Which Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2025 Nissan Altima offers these trims:

• S: The entry trim gets the standard 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, and Nissan Safety Shield 360. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the Altima lineup.
• SR: This trim adds 19-inch wheels, sport-bolstered front seats, and a wireless charging pad, while keeping the standard tech and safety features. It is a good-value choice if you want a sportier look and feel.
• SR Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest mix of equipment, because it adds the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, navigation, ProPilot Assist 1.0, and the nine-speaker Bose audio system.
• Platinum: This trim builds on the SR Premium with the most upscale equipment in the lineup, including the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, navigation, ProPilot Assist 1.0, the Bose audio system, and a surround-view camera system.

What Nissan Altima do most buyers choose?

The Nissan Altima years with the most listings are 2024, 2016, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right colour, trim, and price. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and lower used-car pricing.

What is the Nissan Altima's resale value?

Most Altima model years are down year over year, and several recent ones have seen double-digit declines. That pattern can work in your favour as a used buyer, especially if you are shopping newer examples that have already moved down from their earlier pricing.

The 2017, 2018, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Nissan Altima safe?

• 2025: 5/10
• 2024: 7/10
• 2023: 7/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10
• 2020: 8/10

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Altima.

For the safest used buy, the 2021 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Nissan Altima now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2024 model is at −14.35% versus a year ago, and the 2023 model is at −14.98%.
• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 34.6% good and great deals, and the 2023 model has 32.6%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $26,117 CAD. The Nissan Altima offers a roomy cabin and a comfortable, easygoing character that make it a practical everyday sedan.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Nissan equips every 2025 Altima sold in Canada with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and standard AWD, generating 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, and the Altima AWD should burn 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in S trim and 8.4 L/100 km in other trims in combined driving.
• Tech: The standard setup has an 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo, while the Altima SR Premium and Platinum get a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, and a navigation system.
• Safety: ProPilot Assist 1.0 pairs an adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go capability and a lane-centring assist system, and the Altima Platinum also has a surround-view camera system.
• Starting price: At its base price, the 2025 Altima is the most affordable midsize car on the rapidly dwindling market.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
