What should I look for when buying a used Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360, with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic rear braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo; SR Premium and Platinum add a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Altima AWD should burn 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in S trim and 8.4 L/100 km in other trims in combined driving.

Which Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2025 Nissan Altima offers these trims:

• S: The entry trim uses the 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo, and it suits buyers who want the most affordable way into the lineup.
• SR: Adds 19-inch wheels, sport-bolstered front seats, and a wireless charging pad, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want a sportier look and a few extra conveniences.
• SR Premium: Adds the 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, navigation, ProPilot Assist 1.0, and the nine-speaker Bose audio system.

What Nissan Altima do most buyers choose?

The Nissan Altima years with the most listings are 2016, 2024, and 2017.

These higher-volume model years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and lower used-car pricing.

What is the Nissan Altima's resale value?

Most Altima model years are showing year-over-year price declines, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room for value. The largest drops are in the double digits, so recent examples have become noticeably more affordable. A few older years have moved down less sharply, which suggests they are retaining value a bit better than the rest.

The 2014, 2017, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Nissan Altima now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Deal availability: The 2024 model has 30.9% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2016 model has the most listings at a current average price of $9,663 CAD. The Nissan Altima offers a comfortable, practical cabin with a strong everyday value proposition.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Nissan equips every 2025 Altima sold in Canada with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine and standard AWD, generating 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, and the Altima AWD should burn 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres in S trim and 8.4 L/100 km in other trims in combined driving.
• Tech: The standard setup has an 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo, while SR Premium and Platinum get a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NissanConnect services, and navigation.

• Starting price: At its base price, the 2025 Altima is the most affordable midsize car on the rapidly dwindling market.

If you're buying used today, the 2016 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
