- Owners rate the Mazda MAZDA3 between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

What should I look for when buying a used Mazda MAZDA3?
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: i-Activsense, with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: a standard 8.8-inch infotainment display with a dial controller, plus a 10.25-inch touchscreen on higher-trimmed models with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Which Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?
The 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 offers these trims:
- GX: The entry trim uses the 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, plus standard front-wheel drive; it suits buyers who want the core MAZDA3 experience at the lowest price.
- GS: Adds the option of all-wheel drive, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want extra traction without moving to the top trim.
- GT: Adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, reverse automatic braking, and the available Turbo engine, plus the 12-speaker Bose audio system.
What Mazda MAZDA3 do most buyers choose?
The Mazda MAZDA3 years with the most listings are 2018, 2024, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 246 | 31.7% |
| 2024 | 236 | 33.9% |
| 2019 | 225 | 35.1% |
| 2017 | 223 | 31.8% |
| 2016 | 210 | 27.6% |
| 2015 | 204 | 27.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine broad availability with the Mazda3’s strongest mix of style, driving enjoyment, and value. More listings also give you more room to compare trims, equipment, and prices before you buy.
What is the Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |

| 2017 | $13,608 CAD | −4.0% |

Most Mazda MAZDA3 model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want stronger value. The biggest drops are concentrated in several recent and mid-cycle years, while a few years are falling more slowly and therefore retaining more of their value. Overall, the pattern points to a market where buyers can find meaningful savings across much of the lineup.
The 2025, 2017, and 2020 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

For the safest used buy, the 2021 and 2022 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Mazda MAZDA3 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −1.42% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.42%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 33.9% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $14,951 CAD. The Mazda MAZDA3 offers a stylish, driver-focused character that makes even older examples feel more special than many compact-car rivals.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The standard engine produces 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the Turbo engine increases output to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular unleaded fuel and 250 hp and 320 lb-ft with premium.
- Tech: Higher-trimmed models get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad.
- Safety: The top GT model adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, and reverse automatic braking.
- Starting price: The 2026 Mazda3 sedan has an MSRP of $28,346 CAD for the base GX trim.
If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Exceptional driving experience. The most balanced, precision crafted steering wheel system of any cars I have ever owned (25 of them). Drives better than most acclaimed German machines out there.Mazda cars are very enjoyable to drive, yet these models are ones of the most underrated and undervalued vehicles yet. Amazing Mazda vehicles. They're excellent values, but folks have to give Mazda cars chances. Drive one. The issues I have with the current models are: 1). There's no 6 Speed Manual with the 2.5 Turbo AWD Premium Plus trim models. 2). Please, bring CD ( Compact Disc) entertainment back in all Mazdas. 3). Add colors to the interior design. It's too bland, monotonous, monochromatic, and boring. The only comparisons out there to the superb driving of Mazda vehicles are Nissan Altima SR, Audi S3 and BMW M340.

Reviewed a 2020 Mazda MAZDA3 on Sep 19, 2025
The Mazda 3 really shines compared to other compact cars because it feels so much more fun and engaging to drive, with sharp handling, responsive steering, and even the option for all-wheel drive or a turbo engine if you want more power. Inside, it feels more like a luxury car than an economy sedan, thanks to its quiet cabin, high-quality materials, and sleek design. On top of that, it’s packed with modern safety features and earns strong crash-test ratings, which adds a lot of peace of mind. The trade-offs are that the back seat and trunk aren’t the most spacious, the ride can feel a little firm on rough roads, and the higher trims can get pricey. When you compare it to other cars, the Mazda 3 is definitely more stylish and fun than the Toyota Corolla, though the Corolla has hybrids and a long reputation for reliability; it feels more upscale than the Honda Civic, though the Civic offers more space and resale value; and it’s nicer to drive than the Hyundai Elantra, even if the Elantra is usually cheaper at the entry level. Overall, the Mazda 3 is a great choice if you care about style, quality, and the joy of driving, rather than just getting the most space or the lowest price.

Mazdas are generally good value. Maybe not as refined as some of the Honda/Toyota models but just as reliable and generally cheaper.

CarGurus recommends the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3

Summary
With 27 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,158 CAD, 44.4% of 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out for bringing a turbocharged engine to Mazda’s compact car line as the brand continues to move upscale. That change gives this model a more performance-focused character than Mazda’s earlier reputation for being enjoyable mainly because of its ride and handling. The result is a car that aims to be both engaging and more powerful, which helps explain why it appeals to buyers looking for something a little more distinctive than a typical compact sedan or hatchback.
What also makes the 2021 Mazda MAZDA3 appealing is the way it combines that added performance with the qualities owners tend to value most: sporty design, a high-quality interior, and a fun driving experience. It is also praised for fuel efficiency. On the other hand, some owners would like more equipment, including ventilated heated seats and more power adjustments for the passenger seat, so the car’s upscale ambitions do not quite extend to every convenience feature.
