Which MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2025 MINI Cooper offers these trims:

• Cooper C: The entry point to the 2025 range, with 161 horsepower, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and standard Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad. It suits you if you want the MINI experience at the lowest starting price.
• Cooper S: The best-value trim for most buyers, adding 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque for stronger acceleration and a more energetic drive while keeping the same core tech and convenience features.
• John Cooper Works: The performance-focused choice, with 228 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque, and a host of standard performance and convenience features for buyers who want the sharpest MINI character.
• Convertible Cooper C: The open-air version of the Cooper C, bringing the same entry-level powertrain and equipment with a convertible body style.

What MINI Cooper do most buyers choose?

The MINI Cooper years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

Higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more choice on price, trim, and condition. They also usually make it easier to compare listings and find a deal that fits your budget.

What is the MINI Cooper's resale value?

Most MINI Cooper model years are down year over year, which can work in your favour if you're shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while a few newer examples are falling more slowly or even moving up slightly. That mix suggests there are still opportunities to find value, especially if you focus on the years with the sharper declines.

The 2021, 2016, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the MINI Cooper safe?

• 2020: 6/10

In Canada, the 2025 Mini Cooper comes standard with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.

For the safest used buy, the 2025 model posts the highest confirmed score of 7/10.

Should I buy a used MINI Cooper now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.37% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.51%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 39.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $32,956 CAD. The MINI Cooper offers a distinctive, premium-feeling cabin with playful styling that makes it stand out in daily driving.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The latest model uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, 161 horsepower in the base model, and 201 hp in the Cooper S.
• Tech: The latest model includes Operating System 9 infotainment, a 9.4-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and dual-zone climate control.
• Safety: The latest model adds standard forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.
• Starting price: The latest model starts at $38,269 CAD.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

How does the 2018 MINI Cooper compare to the 2018 Volkswagen Golf?
