What should I look for when buying a used Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Active Drive Assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a 12.3-inch touchscreen on higher trim levels.

Which Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers these trims:

• Laredo: The entry trim keeps the Pentastar 3.6-litre V6, eight-speed automatic, and standard 4WD, making it the value-focused starting point.
• Laredo X: Adds the same core powertrain and 4WD setup, with a step up in equipment over the Laredo.
• Altitude: Adds leatherette upholstery and a more upscale look and feel.
• Limited: Adds more comfort and convenience equipment, and suits buyers who want a well-rounded daily driver.
• 85th Anniversary: Adds commemorative trim-specific equipment and a more distinctive appearance.
• Limited Reserve: Adds genuine leather upholstery and a more premium cabin; this is the best-value trim for shoppers who want a luxury-leaning Grand Cherokee without going all the way to the top.
• Summit: Adds the most upscale equipment, including the larger touchscreen, 19-speaker McIntosh audio, front-passenger touchscreen, air suspension, and the more sophisticated Quadra-Drive II 4WD system.

What Jeep Grand Cherokee do most buyers choose?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee years with the most listings are 2022, 2024, and 2020.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, colour, and price. They also often sit in the sweet spot between newer features and used-car value.

What is the Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used because it creates more room to find value. The newer models show some of the largest drops, while older examples are changing more slowly. That pattern suggests you can often get a newer Grand Cherokee for meaningfully less than its recent price.

The 2014, 2023, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

• 2026: 6/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 4/10
• 2020: 3/10

For the safest used buy, the 2022 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.

Should I buy a used Jeep Grand Cherokee now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −14.04% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −20.02%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 31.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.1%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2022 model has the most listings at a current average price of $34,830 CAD. The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a roomy cabin and a premium-feeling interior that make it easy to live with every day.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The latest model pairs a Hurricane 4 Turbo with 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, while the Pentastar V6 delivers 293 hp and 260 lb-ft, and Jeep expects fuel economy as low as 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres combined.
• Tech: The latest model adds a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen on higher trims, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and available night vision plus a low-angle off-road camera.
• Safety: The latest model adds Active Drive Assist improvements for smoother transitions between automation levels, along with standard adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.
• Starting price: The Laredo trim starts at $59,995 CAD.

If you're buying used today, the 2022 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
