Which BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 4 Series offers these trims:

• 430i: The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder brings 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, and it suits you if you want the core 4 Series experience with strong performance and a lower entry point.
• M440i: The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six adds 382 hp, 369 lb-ft of torque, and a 48-volt mild hybrid starter/generator for better fuel efficiency, making it the best-value trim if you want the strongest blend of performance and equipment.
• M4: The performance-focused model adds a six-speed manual transmission option.

What BMW 4 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 4 Series years with the most listings are 2018, 2017, and 2019.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right body style, equipment level, and price. They also often sit in the sweet spot where used shoppers can balance choice with value.

What is the BMW 4 Series's resale value?

Most model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used and want more room to negotiate. A few newer and recent years are still moving differently, so the market is not falling at the same pace across every model year. The smallest changes are concentrated among the years that have held value best.

The 2025, 2019, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the BMW 4 Series safe?

• 2021: 6/10

For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 6/10.
