New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale near Fitzroy Harbour, ON

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns 7.2/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

The redesigned Outback keeps the practical strengths that made its wagon predecessors appealing, while adding an SUV-like shape and more feature enhancements. In testing, it was as capable off-road as it was comfortable on pavement, which makes it a strong fit if you want one vehicle for daily driving and weekend adventures.

Strong off-road capabilities and comfortable road manners are the biggest strengths, and it also offers plenty of cargo space. The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the best value may be lower in the range rather than at the top.

With 27.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a vehicle that should fit well into long-term use, with Subaru’s safety focus and a recent track record that supports confidence in everyday ownership. Its standard all-wheel drive, composed road manners, and easy-to-use controls also point to a design that should age well for typical Canadian driving.

The powertrain is described as responsive enough for most drivers, and the CVT avoids the harsh drone that can make some transmissions tiring over time. The Outback’s off-road hardware and driver aids also suggest it is built to handle a wide range of use without feeling fragile.

If you plan to keep one for the long haul, the main ownership risk is paying extra for trims that add more equipment than you are likely to use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base cabin already brings commendable material quality, while higher trims add smoother materials and a more appealing saddle brown interior theme. The base trim is the one to watch if you want to avoid missing out on the nicer cabin touches.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer-four with 260 hp. The base engine is described as more capable than expected, and the turbo is the choice if you want more punch.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver attention monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Premium XT trim adds some premium items, including a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an available wireless charging pad. The system is easy to use, and the Limited XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT trims add native cloud-based navigation with a one-year trial.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates as little as 8.5 L/100 km combined for the base engine and 9.7 L/100 km combined for XT models.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 4 trim levels: Touring, Premium XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Touring: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the Outback’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It already delivers the practical cabin, standard all-wheel drive, and the full EyeSight safety suite.
• Premium XT: This trim adds several niceties and driver assists, plus a surround-view camera system. It makes sense if you want more equipment, but the added price is harder to justify than the Touring.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the most adventure-ready version, with increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and electronically controlled suspension dampers.
• Premier XT: This is the most upscale-feeling version, with the most appealing cabin presentation and added convenience features, but it is also where diminishing returns become most obvious.

The Premium XT trim enhances some standard features and adds a handful of premium items, including a surround-view camera system, so it is the trim to watch if safety and convenience matter most.
