New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale nearCourtenay, BC

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns 7.2/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

It stands out because it has been redesigned in an all-new, SUV-like form while still keeping the practical strengths that made its wagon predecessors appealing. It is described as being as impressive off-road as it is comfortable on pavement, and the available cargo space reinforces its usefulness as an adventure-ready family vehicle.

The main trade-offs are that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, and the tech score is more modest than its strengths in packaging and usefulness. Even so, the Outback’s broad ability makes it a strong fit if you want one vehicle to handle daily driving and rougher terrain.

36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent amount of market choice.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a vehicle that should fit Subaru’s usual safety-minded reputation, and the expert assessment says it has no notable flaws in price, performance, or practicality. Its performance notes also point to a composed, confident driving experience, with the base engine proving more capable than expected and the CVT avoiding the usual harsh drone.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that the base model should please most drivers, including those who will use it on moderate off-road terrain. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright weakness and more about choosing a trim that adds cost without adding much extra value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Touring trim already brings attractive interior materials and the core rugged, practical character, while higher trims add smoother materials and a more upscale cabin. The biggest gap is that the top-end trims bring diminishing returns, so you should be selective about paying extra for luxury touches.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower in the base model, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer-four with 260 hp. The base engine is more capable than expected, and the CVT includes eight simulated gears.
• Safety package: Every model gets Subaru’s EyeSight suite, including frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver attention monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Premium XT adds some premium features, and the surround-view camera is also equipped on the Wilderness.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad is available. The system also includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and the native cloud-based navigation system is included with the Limited XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates as little as 8.5 L/100 km combined for the base engine and 9.7 L/100 km combined for XT models. The Wilderness is rated at 10.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 4 trim levels: Touring, Premium XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Touring: This is the best-value choice if you want the Outback’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It already delivers the practical cabin, strong comfort, and the standard safety suite.
• Premium XT: This trim adds several niceties and driver assists, plus a surround-view camera system. It makes sense if you want more equipment, but the price jump is significant.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the most adventure-focused version, with increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and electronically controlled suspension dampers. It also gets the surround-view camera.
• Premier XT: This is the most upscale choice, with the appealing saddle brown cabin palette and the premium feel of the top trim. It suits you if you want the richest interior presentation and are comfortable paying for it.

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• The redesigned Outback keeps wagon practicality while adding SUV-like presence and strong off-road ability.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers a distinctive wagon shape, standard all-wheel drive, and strong everyday practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the most current Outback with the redesigned body, improved tech layout, and the same broad usefulness, the 2026 is the better pick. If you are more price-sensitive and value the older wagon-like character, the 2025 remains worth a look.
