New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale near Connaught, ON

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an expert rating of 7.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

It’s a strong fit if you want one vehicle that can handle daily commuting, cargo duty, and weekend adventures without giving up comfort on pavement. The redesign gives it a more SUV-like shape, but it still keeps the practical strengths that made the Outback appealing in the first place. In testing, it proved capable off-road and comfortable on-road, and the cabin offers plenty of cargo space.

The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the best value may be lower in the range rather than at the top. Even so, the market shows 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a vehicle with Subaru’s usual safety-minded approach, and the expert evaluation says it should suit buyers who want broad everyday usefulness with weekend capability. The powertrain testing also suggests the base engine is more capable than expected, with quick initial response and no sense that it was being overstressed in normal driving.

The expert evaluation also notes that the CVT does not tend to drone loudly under acceleration, and the vehicle remained composed and confident in city and highway driving. Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive and the Outback’s off-road hardware reinforce the sense that it’s built for varied use.

If you plan to keep it long term, the main ownership risk is less about outright capability and more about choosing the right trim, since the higher-priced versions may not add enough value for what you pay.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim already brings attractive woven textile cabin materials, while higher trims add smoother materials and leather seat upholstery. The top Premier XT trim’s saddle brown palette gives the cabin a warmer, more rugged look.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 2.4-litre boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both use a CVT and standard AWD, and the base engine is described as more than adequate for most drivers.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver attention monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Premium XT adds some premium features, and the surround-view camera system is also equipped on the Wilderness.
• Infotainment: The Outback uses a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. Wireless charging is available, and native cloud-based navigation is included with the Limited XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT trims with a one-year trial.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates as little as 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined for the base engine and 9.7 L/100 km combined for the turbocharged XT models. The Wilderness is rated at 10.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 4 trim levels: Touring, Premium XT, Wilderness, and Premier XT.

Here’s the short version:

• Touring: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the Outback’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It already gives you the practical cabin, standard AWD, and the full EyeSight safety suite.
• Premium XT: This trim adds several niceties and driver assists, plus a surround-view camera system. It’s the step to consider if you want more equipment, though the price jump is significant.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the most adventure-focused version, with increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, electronically controlled suspension dampers, and a surround-view camera system.
• Premier XT: This is the most upscale-feeling version, with the turbocharged engine, native cloud-based navigation, and the most appealing cabin presentation.

The standard EyeSight safety suite is included on all trims, while the Premium XT and Wilderness add extra camera coverage.

Should I buy a 2026 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• The redesign keeps wagon practicality while adding SUV-like presence and strong off-road ability.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It remains a distinctive wagon with strong practicality, value, and standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern Outback with the strongest blend of comfort, practicality, and adventure ability, the 2026 is the better target. If you’re shopping mainly on price and want the older wagon character, the 2025 is worth a look.
