New & Used 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 for Sale near Portland, ON

Is the 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?

The 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 6.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It stands out in the compact-car class by bringing style and athleticism to a segment that often prioritises value over personality. You get a cabin that could easily be mistaken for entry-level luxury fare, plus a spirited driving experience and head-turning styling. That makes it feel more upscale and engaging than many small cars, which is a big part of its appeal.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, the back seat is cramped, and the technology is dated. Even so, the Mazda3 remains a compelling choice if you want a compact car with more character than the norm.

With 28.2% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

The Mazda3 is presented as a polished, well-built compact car with a solid underlying construction and no creaks or squeaks noted in the cabin. Its driving character is also described as comfortable and composed, which supports the impression of a car that should feel reassuring in everyday use.

On the dependability side, the base engine is described as adequately powered rather than strained, and the turbocharged version is said to gather speed confidently. That suggests the powertrains are tuned for usable, predictable performance rather than drama.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with its age-related compromises in technology and rear-seat space.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mazda MAZDA3?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is notably upscale for the class, with soft-touch surfaces, genuine stitching, and a tasteful dashboard design. The GT trim adds a head-up display, a surround-view camera system, reverse automatic braking, adaptive headlights, and lane centring, while the base trim misses those higher-end features.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque on the standard trims, while the GT can be optioned with a Turbo engine that raises output to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular unleaded fuel, or 250 hp and 320 lb-ft with premium fuel. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional on GS and GT models.
• Safety package: All models come with i-Activsense, which includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert. The GT adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, and reverse automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8.8-inch display with a dial controller rather than a touchscreen. Higher trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The base-engine sedan is rated at 7.8 L/100 km combined, AWD raises that to 8.1 L/100 km, and the Turbo engine increases it to 8.8 L/100 km combined. The base engine with the available manual averages 8.3 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX, GS, and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Mazda3’s core strengths: stylish design, a refined cabin, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it also leaves you with the most basic tech and the least upscale equipment.
• GS: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to available all-wheel drive while keeping the Mazda3’s strong mix of style, driving enjoyment, and everyday usability. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• GT: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete Mazda3 experience. It adds the most advanced safety and convenience features, plus the option of the Turbo engine and premium audio, making it the right pick if you want the most upscale and engaging version.

The GT also gets the extra safety and convenience equipment mentioned above, while the lower trims stick with the standard i-Activsense package.

Is the 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

The Mazda3 sedan was awarded a five-star rating in all NHTSA evaluations, and the IIHS gave it its highest Top Safety Pick+ award with Good results in all crash tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

All 2026 Mazda3 models come standard with i-Activsense, which includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a driver condition monitor, blind-spot monitors, and rear cross-traffic alert. The GT adds adaptive headlights, a head-up display, lane centring, a surround-view camera system, and reverse automatic braking.

One caveat is that the adaptive cruise control showed delayed reactions to slowing traffic in testing, which could make highway driving feel less smooth than you’d expect.

Should I buy a 2026 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Few updates are expected for 2026, so you’re mainly buying the Mazda3’s established strengths: style, a premium-feeling cabin, and engaging driving dynamics.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It still blends quality, refinement, safety, and enjoyable driving dynamics.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the Mazda3’s proven formula, the 2026 is the straightforward pick. If you’re shopping on price, the 2025 can be a smart alternative because its core appeal is very similar and the model’s strengths carry over well.
