New & Used 2026 Mazda CX-5 for Sale nearThunder Bay, ON

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 earns a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It is a strong fit if you want a compact crossover that leans into style, interior quality, standard all-wheel drive, and a more modern tech package. Mazda’s redesign makes it longer, wider, more spacious, and more technologically advanced, and the standard Google built-in setup across the lineup is a real upgrade for everyday use.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the carried-over 187-horsepower engine and six-speed automatic feel dated, and the added weight of the redesign makes the CX-5 feel slower than you’d expect. Fuel economy is also a weak point, so if efficiency or brisk acceleration matters most, this won’t be the best match.

With 14.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is positioned as a straightforward gasoline SUV with a carryover powertrain, which usually helps keep ownership simple. Mazda also backs it with a standard three-year basic warranty and a five-year powertrain warranty, both with unlimited kilometres in Canada.

Its naturally aspirated 2.5-litre engine and six-speed automatic are familiar components, and that can be reassuring if you prefer a less complicated setup. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the CX-5’s weak fuel economy and dated transmission may make it less satisfying over time than newer rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GX trim gets the essentials, but the GS adds the most appealing everyday upgrades, including 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, a head-up display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory. The GT adds leather seating and a more upscale feel, while the Premium Package brings the larger screen and extra camera and driver-monitoring tech.
• Powertrain: You get a carryover SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. It is smooth enough in normal driving, but it feels underpowered in this larger, heavier CX-5.
• Safety package: Every trim includes adaptive cruise control with speed limit assist, automatic emergency braking with turn-across traffic detection and head-on collision mitigation, rear automatic emergency braking with rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, blind spot monitors, vehicle exit warning, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and dynamic guidelines for the rear-view camera.
• Infotainment: All trims get a 12.9-inch touchscreen, Google built-in, and a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wired on the GX and wireless on the GS and GT. The GT Premium Package adds a 15.6-inch screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 9.9 L/100 km in the city, 7.9 L/100 km on the highway, and 9.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

• GS: This is the best-value trim. It adds the features most shoppers will notice every day, including 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, a head-up display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory.
• GT: This is the trim to choose if you want the more premium cabin experience, including leather seating, plus available upgrades such as the larger screen and the 360-degree camera system through the Premium Package.
