Is the 2026 Honda Civic a good car?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns an expert rating of 6.83/10.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It’s a strong fit if you want a compact car that blends broad appeal with a polished driving experience, premium interior materials, and multiple body-style choices. The trade-offs are that you’ll pay a premium for one, the technology is described as outdated, and it can be noisy at speed.

The market shows 30.0% good or great deals, which points to some room for selective shoppers.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic reliable?

Honda describes the Civic as a dependable model, and the broader ownership case is built around strong reliability, good value retention, and low running costs. The expert evaluation also frames it as the kind of car you buy, keep for a long time, and expect to work well for years.

The performance assessment supports that long-term view with a conventional 2.0-litre four-cylinder setup in the LX and Sport, plus a CVT that generally stays out of the way. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a higher purchase price can make any repair or maintenance surprise feel more expensive than it would in a cheaper rival.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic Sport adds 18-inch wheels and a more upscale look and feel than the base LX, but the base trim is still relatively basic and keeps the simpler cabin and tech setup.
• Powertrain: LX and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, a CVT, and front-wheel drive; the hybrids use Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain for stronger efficiency.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, and adaptive cruise control. Traffic Jam Assist is also included at lower speeds, along with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto require a cable connection. Higher trims such as the Si and Sport Touring Hybrid get larger 10.2-inch instrumentation and 9-inch infotainment displays, plus Google built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Civic returns 7.6 L/100 km in the city, 6.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 6.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the Civic’s core strengths at the lowest price, but it keeps the simpler equipment and the basic 7-inch tech setup.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished appearance and still keeps the Civic’s balanced driving character without moving into pricier hybrid territory.
• Sport Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain’s stronger efficiency and are willing to pay more for it.
• Sport Touring Hybrid: This is the most feature-rich choice, with larger displays, Google built-in, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the extra parking-sensor package.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and the Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 273 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,734 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $33,044 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,421 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Civic is holding value reasonably well, even if the market has eased a bit from a year ago. For a future seller, that means you may still benefit from the Civic’s reputation for strong resale, but you should not expect a rising-price environment. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, the model’s value retention should remain a strength when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic safe?

The 2026 Civic sedan earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, including four-star frontal impact, five-star side impact, and five-star rollover resistance ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, and adaptive cruise control. Traffic Jam Assist is also standard at lower speeds, and Canadian-market cars also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

One caveat is that the lane-centring assist can feel intrusive when used without adaptive cruise control, and the adaptive cruise control can brake more abruptly than you might like in heavier traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
• It carries over the polished, broad-appeal Civic formula with strong driving refinement and premium interior materials.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $30,092 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $33,044 CAD average.
• It offers a refreshed Civic lineup with a strong balance of everyday usability and driver involvement.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version of this generation and can find a well-priced example, the 2026 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2025 is the better value path and still gives you much of the Civic’s core appeal.
