The 2026 Honda Civic earns a 6.83/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It’s a strong fit if you want a compact car with choice of body styles and powertrains, plus premium interior materials and engaging driving manners. The trade-offs are that it can be noisy at speed and its technology is dated, and Honda still does not offer all-wheel drive. It’s also a premium-priced choice, so value may depend on how much you care about the Civic’s polish and driving enjoyment.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic reliable?

The 2026 Honda Civic is described as a dependable model, and Honda ranks high in reliability.

Its cost-effectiveness case is built around long-term ownership: it’s meant to be the kind of car you buy, drive for years, and spend very little to keep running. The performance notes also point to a well-sorted package, with a CVT that mostly stays out of the way and a chassis that feels composed and enjoyable. Honda’s ownership appeal is reinforced by the model’s strong value retention.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about living with a premium-priced compact car that may not feel like the best value for everyone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic Sport adds 18-inch wheels, a shiny exhaust outlet tip, and a cabin that looks a class above the base car, while the base LX is more basic. The Sport still carries the same retro infotainment setup, so you should decide whether the extra style is worth it.
• Powertrain: The LX and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The hybrids use Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain and are described as remarkably powerful and impressively efficient.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, while the Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 7-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto require a cable connection, and the system is described as simple rather than cutting-edge. Higher trims such as the Si and Sport Touring Hybrid get larger displays, Google built-in, wireless smartphone charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The Civic’s fuel economy is rated at 7.6 L/100 km in the city, 6.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 6.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2026 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core strengths without extra frills. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and are comfortable with the standard tech and equipment.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim if you want the Civic to feel a bit more special. You get the more distinctive exterior treatment, 18-inch wheels, and a cabin that looks and feels more upscale, while keeping the same basic powertrain.
• Sport Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain’s stronger efficiency and more impressive overall power. It’s the smart pick if your priority is a better all-around drivetrain rather than extra luxury features.
• Sport Touring Hybrid: This is the most feature-rich choice, with larger displays, Google built-in, wireless smartphone charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the premium audio setup. It suits you best if you want the most tech and convenience in the Civic lineup.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and the Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 297 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,584 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $32,584 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,340 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Civic has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means the model still appears to hold value reasonably well, even if current pricing is not as strong as it was a year ago. If you own one long term, the Civic’s reputation for reliability and desirability should continue to support resale strength.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic safe?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, including four-star frontal impact, five-star side impact, and five-star rollover resistance ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane centring assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard. The Sport Touring Hybrid adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

One caveat is that the lane-centring assist can feel intrusive without adaptive cruise control, and the adaptive cruise control can brake too abruptly in heavier traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.11% compared with last year.
• It carries over the updated Civic formula with strong driving manners, premium interior materials, and broad trim and powertrain choice.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,759 CAD, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $32,584 CAD average.
• It offers a clearer gas-only lineup with affordable sedan or hatchback choices.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the newer used-market option with broader choice and a still-fresh feel. If your priority is saving money, the 2025 is the better value path, especially if you’re happy with a simpler Civic setup.
