Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 6.5/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is positioned as a compact SUV for you if you want something sporty, refined, and more premium-feeling than the average mainstream rival. Its attractive styling and near-luxury interior help it stand out, while the driving experience is meant to be engaging rather than purely practical.

The trade-offs are clear: limited passenger and cargo space, plus technology that feels outdated compared with some rivals. Even so, the overall package still makes sense if you value style and driving enjoyment over maximum utility.

With 36.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a meaningful share of inventory that may be worth a closer look.

Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CX-50 is presented as a well-finished compact SUV with a premium feel, and its expert evaluation supports that impression with a solid 7/10 safety score and a generally polished driving experience. The hybrid powertrain is described as a smart move because it brings proven hybrid hardware and better fuel efficiency to the lineup.

Its performance content also points to a powertrain that should feel familiar and confidence-inspiring, with quick throttle response and an e-CVT designed to mimic a conventional automatic. On the cost side, the hybrid’s fuel savings are framed as enough to offset its price premium over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about mechanical drama and more about living with the CX-50’s tighter space and older-feeling technology.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Mazda CX-50?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes with a basic eight-speaker audio system, while the GT trim adds a 12-speaker Bose premium system. The hybrid model also brings red leather upholstery and a more upscale cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: The hybrid uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with three electric motors, 219 horsepower, 163 lb-ft of torque, and AWD. It is tuned for efficiency and everyday drivability rather than serious off-road use.
• Safety package: All models include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch horizontal infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and touchscreen functionality only for those phone integrations. Wireless charging is standard on CX-50 Hybrid models in Canada.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates the hybrid at 6.2 L/100 km combined, versus 8.9 L/100 km combined for the standard engine and 9.4 L/100 km combined for the turbo.

Which 2025 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 2 trim levels: GS-L and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GS-L: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the CX-50’s core strengths without paying for extra luxury touches. It gives you the hybrid powertrain’s efficiency and the standard equipment that makes the model appealing in the first place.
• GT: This is the better pick if you want the most upscale CX-50 experience, especially because it adds the 12-speaker Bose premium audio system and a more premium feel overall.

All CX-50 models come with the same standard driver-assistance suite, so you do not need to move up a trim for the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Mazda CX-50?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 319 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.26% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,704 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Mazda CX-50's resale value?

The current average of $40,704 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,392 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-50 may be more attractive to used buyers now than it was a year ago, which can help support demand in the near term. For a future seller, that also means you may need to lean on condition, trim, and equipment to stand out rather than expecting a strong price premium.

Because the market has already adjusted downward, a well-kept example bought at the right price could be easier to move later if demand stays steady. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA evaluations except rollover protection, where it receives four stars, and it earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

All versions come with a driver-assistance suite that includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high beams. In testing, the systems functioned as designed with no false alarms, and the adaptive cruise control was noted for smooth acceleration and stops.

The main caveat is the rollover result from NHTSA, which is slightly lower than the rest of its crash performance.

Should I buy a 2025 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The new hybrid powertrain adds fuel efficiency to an already sporty SUV.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $36,917 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $40,704 CAD average.
• It balances rugged styling with standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the newer hybrid efficiency and the stronger overall appeal of this model year. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2024 is the better value path.
