Is the 2025 Hyundai Sonata a good car?

Generally — 4/5 is a strong user rating for the 2025 Hyundai Sonata, and our experts give it 9/10 overall. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

The 2025 Sonata is positioned as a safe family car with broad appeal, and the refreshed model adds new rear-seat air conditioning vents plus improved crash-test ratings. It is also described as fun to drive and comfortable, with the N Line trim adding extra emotional appeal if you want a more engaging midsize sedan.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarising, fuel economy is poor in the N Line, and all-wheel drive availability is limited.

Only 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Sonata reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2025 Sonata is presented as a value-focused midsize sedan with strong safety credentials and a broad equipment list, which supports confidence for everyday ownership. Its five-year, 100,000-kilometre warranty and five years of complimentary roadside assistance with no kilometre limit also help reduce early ownership risk.

The performance side is straightforward: the base engine is described as unremarkable, while the N Line adds more power and a sportier character. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the N Line’s stronger performance comes with higher fuel use and a more demanding ownership profile than the standard model.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Hyundai Sonata?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Preferred-Trend is the more practical value choice, while the N Line adds a darker, more distinctive interior, dual digital screens under a single display panel, red stitching, red accents, metal pedal covers, navigation, wireless charging, digital key technology, and an 8-speaker Bose premium sound system. The base Preferred-Trend uses black leather, and the N Line is the better pick if you want the sportier presentation and extra equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and can be had with AWD on Preferred-Trend models. The N Line uses a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 290 hp and 311 pound-feet of torque, paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive only.
• Safety package: Every 2025 Sonata has standard advanced driver-assistance systems, including forward collision warning with intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Highway Driving Assist is standard on the N Line, combining adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist.
• Infotainment: All models have a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, voice recognition, and Bluetooth for two smartphones at once. Bluelink is standard, and the N Line adds a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, on-board navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and digital key technology.
• Fuel efficiency: The N Line is the one to watch here, with NRCan saying it should burn 8.8 L/100 km in combined driving, while testing returned 12.6 L/100 km.

Which 2025 Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata is offered in 2 trim levels: Preferred-Trend and N Line.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred-Trend: This is the trim to target if you want the Sonata’s core strengths at the lower price point. It brings the standard safety suite, the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, Bluelink, and the option of AWD with the base engine.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the most engaging Sonata. It adds the 290-hp turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, quad-outlet exhaust, the digital instrument panel, navigation, wireless charging, digital key technology, and Highway Driving Assist. It is the best fit if you value performance and extra tech over fuel economy.

The N Line also gets Highway Driving Assist as standard, while every Sonata includes the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Hyundai Sonata?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 107 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.51% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,920 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $31,920 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,483 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more attractive to used buyers today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim, especially if you own the better-equipped N Line.

Because the Sonata is still positioned as a strong-value, safety-focused midsize sedan, well-kept examples should continue to draw interest. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Sonata safe?

The 2025 Sonata earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, and it earns five-star crash-test ratings in nearly every assessment performed by NHTSA, including rollover resistance; the only four-star result was the driver’s side protection in a frontal-impact collision.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2025 Sonata has standard advanced driver-assistance systems, including forward collision warning with intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Highway Driving Assist is standard on the N Line, pairing adaptive cruise control with lane-centring assist.

The main caveat is that the IIHS rating applies to Sonatas manufactured after November 2024, and the model previously scored poorly in the updated moderate overlap frontal-impact test before the 2025 improvement.

Should I buy a 2025 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 model brings improved crash-test ratings and new rear-seat air conditioning vents.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and equipment, the 2025 Sonata is the better target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on listings near the low end of the range, but the 2025 model year already looks well positioned for buyers who want a well-equipped midsize sedan.
