Is the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric a good car?

The 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric earns an 8.3/10 expert rating and is positioned as Hyundai’s smallest EV with a strong value focus. It brings fresh styling, a long list of standard equipment, and a comfortable, competent driving experience for buyers who want to keep costs in check.

The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and all-wheel drive is not available. Even so, the combination of style, standard advanced safety features, and value makes it a strong fit if you want a compact EV that prioritises everyday usability over quick acceleration.

There are 26.0% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric reliable?

The 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric is presented as a competent commuter with a comfortable ride, a quiet cabin, and handling that is good enough for daily use. It also benefits from a battery pre-conditioning system, which helps prepare the battery before DC fast charging.

Hyundai includes an eight-year, 160,000-kilometre warranty for the battery and other electric-drive components, which is a useful ownership backstop for a used EV buyer. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For long-term ownership, your main used-buying risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about how the battery has been treated, how often it has relied on fast charging, and whether the remaining warranty coverage still gives you enough peace of mind.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: In Canada, the sole trim level is Preferred, while Trend, Ultimate, and N Line Ultimate packages are available. The base setup includes a strong equipment list, but the Trend and Ultimate packages add leatherette, and the N Line Ultimate package brings its own faux-leather and Alcantara design along with a sportier appearance.
• Powertrain: You get front-wheel drive only, with a 64.8-kWh battery pack, 201 hp, and 291 lb-ft of torque. The Kona Electric is competent rather than quick, and the N Line Ultimate package has a reduced range of 370 kilometres due to its larger wheels.
• Safety package: Every trim comes with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, safe exit warning, a driver attention monitor, and Highway Driving Assist. The Ultimate and N Line Ultimate packages add parking aids such as a surround-view camera system, parking alerts, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Blind View Monitor.
• Infotainment: Every Kona Electric gets dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard native navigation. The Ultimate and N Line Ultimate packages include wireless device charging, and all versions but the base model have Hyundai’s Digital Key.
• Range & charging: You can expect up to 420 kilometres of driving range, with the N Line Ultimate package reduced to 370 kilometres. DC fast charging takes more than 40 minutes from 10% to 80%, and home charging should take about five to six hours.
• Battery health: As with any used EV, check battery state-of-health, ask how the car was typically charged, and look for evidence of regular home charging versus heavy DC fast-charging use. You should also confirm how much of the battery warranty remains.

Which 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric is offered in 4 trim levels: Preferred, Trend, Ultimate, and N Line Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the value play if you want the core Kona Electric experience with the full standard safety suite, dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the model’s strong value proposition without paying for extras you may not need.
• Trend: This is the best-value upgrade if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds leatherette seating while keeping the Kona Electric’s practical everyday strengths intact.
• Ultimate: Choose this if you want the richer convenience and parking tech, including wireless device charging, a surround-view camera system, parking alerts, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Blind View Monitor.
• N Line Ultimate: Pick this only if you want the sportier look, with special 19-inch wheels, unique front and rear fasciae, and an exclusive bumper with a diffuser. It also comes with a reduced range figure, so it makes the most sense if style matters more to you than maximum efficiency.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while the Ultimate and N Line Ultimate packages add the extra parking and visibility aids.

What is the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric's resale value?

The current average of $37,226 CAD sits slightly below last year's $41,006 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Kona Electric has become more approachable for used buyers, which can help you get more equipment for your money. For a future seller, though, it also means you may face a more competitive resale environment if the market continues to favour shoppers. If you buy well now, you can reduce the sting of that depreciation later.

Should I buy a 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric or consider a different year?

Choose the 2025 if:

• 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.22% compared with last year.
• This year’s model is presented as a value-focused EV with fresh styling, a strong equipment list, and a comfortable, competent driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, standard equipment, and current-market pricing, the 2025 is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the market carefully and focus on listings near the low end of the range.
